Semrush, a leading online visibility management SaaS platform, has launched the AI Visibility Index, a groundbreaking benchmark that measures brand performance across AI-powered search platforms like ChatGPT and Google AI Mode. This initiative provides enterprise marketers with actionable insights to navigate the transformative shift in digital marketing driven by AI search.

Quick Intel

  • Semrush launches AI Visibility Index to track brand performance in AI search.
  • Analyzes 2,500+ real-world prompts across Finance, Tech, Business, Fashion.
  • Highlights the Mention-Source Divide: only 1 in 5 brands excel in both.
  • Community-driven content like Reddit heavily influences AI search rankings.
  • Offers free interactive microsite and 130-page study with actionable strategies.
  • AI search projected to surpass traditional search traffic by 2028.

Navigating the AI Search Revolution

The AI Visibility Index addresses the seismic shift in digital marketing, described as the most significant since Google’s founding in 1998. Built on Semrush Enterprise’s AI Optimization tool, it analyzes over 2,500 real-world prompts to reveal which brands thrive in AI search and why. “AI search is likely the biggest shift in digital marketing since Google’s founding in 1998,” said Andrew Warden, CMO of Semrush. “The rules of visibility, brand discovery, and traffic were rewritten overnight. It’s no longer only about scale and quality of content but also about reinforcing trust and authority.”

The Mention-Source Divide in AI Visibility

A key finding is the Mention-Source Divide, where fewer than one in five brands are both frequently mentioned and cited as authoritative sources. AI models prioritize user-generated content from platforms like Reddit for ChatGPT or authoritative sources like Bankrate for Google AI Mode. Marketers must excel in both the Sentiment Battle (leveraging community forums) and the Authority Game (ensuring clear, structured content on official sites) to build trust and visibility.

Industry-Specific Strategies for Success

The Index highlights varying strategies across five industries: Finance, Digital Tech, Business, Fashion, and Consumer Electronics. Each sector faces unique challenges and opportunities in AI search. For instance, community-driven content dominates ChatGPT mentions, while structured authorities fuel Google AI Mode. This underscores the need for tailored approaches to secure competitive advantages in AI-driven brand discovery.

Actionable Tools for Marketers

The AI Visibility Index offers a free interactive microsite with bi-weekly updated data visualizations and competitor analysis, alongside a 130-page downloadable study. This study includes a practical roadmap with 3-day, 30-day, and 12-month plans to enhance AI search performance. These tools empower marketers to adapt to the projected dominance of AI search traffic by 2028, ensuring brands remain visible and authoritative.

The launch of the AI Visibility Index positions Semrush as a leader in helping enterprises navigate the AI search era. By providing data-driven insights and strategies, Semrush equips marketers to turn AI visibility into a competitive edge, redefining brand discovery in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
