OpenAI and NVIDIA today announced a letter of intent for a landmark strategic partnership to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems for OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure. This initiative aims to train and run advanced AI models, paving the way for superintelligence. NVIDIA will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI to support data center and power capacity, with the first phase launching in the second half of 2026 using the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in AI development, combining NVIDIA’s leadership in accelerated computing with OpenAI’s expertise in AI research. The 10-gigawatt deployment, equivalent to millions of GPUs, will power OpenAI’s pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI), enhancing capabilities for enterprises, small businesses, and developers worldwide.
“NVIDIA and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward — deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”
The collaboration emphasizes the critical role of compute infrastructure in shaping the future. OpenAI will leverage NVIDIA’s systems to create breakthroughs in AI, making them accessible to a global audience. The partnership complements OpenAI’s existing collaborations with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate partners to build advanced AI infrastructure.
“Everything starts with compute,” said Sam Altman, cofounder and CEO of OpenAI. “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.”
OpenAI has relied on NVIDIA’s platforms since its inception, enabling AI systems used by over 700 million weekly active users. This partnership will scale these efforts, with NVIDIA as OpenAI’s preferred strategic compute and networking partner, co-optimizing hardware and software for maximum efficiency.
“We’ve been working closely with NVIDIA since the early days of OpenAI,” said Greg Brockman, cofounder and president of OpenAI. “We’ve utilized their platform to create AI systems that hundreds of millions of people use every day. We’re excited to deploy 10 gigawatts of compute with NVIDIA to push back the frontier of intelligence and scale the benefits of this technology to everyone.”
The partnership will finalize details in the coming weeks, setting the stage for transformative advancements in AI infrastructure and global accessibility.
