DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc. has launched Single Sign-On (SSO) support, announced on September 4, 2025, to enhance secure and seamless authentication for digital native enterprises. Built on the OpenID Connect (OIDC) protocol, this feature integrates with identity providers like Okta, with plans to support additional IdPs. SSO streamlines user management, offering enterprise-grade security and automation without added costs, enabling businesses to focus on innovation.
DigitalOcean introduces SSO for secure, centralized cloud access.
Built on OpenID Connect (OIDC), starting with Okta integration.
Automates user provisioning and role-based access management.
Supports real-time user offboarding for enhanced security.
Included in all plans, eliminating premium tier restrictions.
Reduces complexity, enabling teams to focus on scaling and innovation.
DigitalOcean’s SSO simplifies user authentication by connecting to existing Identity Providers (IdPs) like Okta. It centralizes access control, enforcing security policies such as MFA, IP restrictions, and password policies. This ensures secure, frictionless access for cloud-native teams, reducing administrative overhead and enhancing operational efficiency.
The platform automates user provisioning by creating accounts and assigning roles based on IdP group membership upon first login. It also supports real-time deprovisioning, instantly revoking access when users are removed from the IdP. These features streamline onboarding and offboarding, ensuring compliance and security without manual intervention.
SSO aligns IdP groups with DigitalOcean roles, simplifying permissions management. Administrators can choose between enforcing SSO-only authentication or allowing a mix of SSO and traditional logins, providing flexibility to suit diverse organizational needs. This approach enhances scalability for growing teams.
“The addition of Single Sign-On underscores DigitalOcean’s commitment to delivering enterprise-grade security without enterprise complexity or cost,” said Bratin Saha, Chief Product and Technology Officer, DigitalOcean. Unlike competitors that reserve SSO for premium tiers, DigitalOcean includes it in every plan, democratizing access to advanced security features.
DigitalOcean’s SSO launch empowers digital native enterprises with secure, efficient user management. By integrating with leading IdPs and automating key processes, the platform enables businesses to prioritize innovation and growth while maintaining robust cloud security.
