Salesforce Silences "SaaSpocalypse" Talk With Blowout Quarter, Then Drops Claudeforce

Record earnings, raised guidance, and a new Anthropic partnership that puts Salesforce inside Claude, and Claude inside Salesforce.

Salesforce delivered one of the strongest quarters in its history on August 26, and used the moment to unveil its most significant AI partnership yet: Claudeforce, an expanded alliance with Anthropic that fuses Claude's reasoning directly into Salesforce's enterprise data and workflows, and puts Salesforce itself inside Claude as a plugin.

The Numbers

Salesforce's fiscal Q2 2027 results beat Wall Street on nearly every line:

  • Revenue: $11.3 billion, up 11% year-over-year
  • cRPO (current remaining performance obligation): $33.5 billion, up 14% — an acceleration analysts had been watching closely as   a proxy for whether AI bookings are translating into contracted future revenue
  • Non-GAAP EPS: $5.90, up 103% year-over-year, far ahead of the roughly $3.27 consensus estimate
  • Free cash flow: $15.2 billion trailing twelve months
  • Agentforce + Data 360 ARR: approaching $3.9 billion
  • Agentic Work Units (AWUs): 3.2 billion delivered in the quarter alone, up 97% quarter-over-quarter, against 7 billion delivered all- time

Salesforce raised its full-year FY27 revenue guidance to $46.1–$46.4 billion, citing a $300 million constant-currency bump tied partly to the pending acquisitions of Contentful and Fin, both expected to close in Q3.

Shares jumped roughly 8 - 13% in the following sessions, an unusually sharp move for a company of Salesforce's size.

Management leaned hard into the numbers as a rebuttal to the "SaaSpocalypse" narrative, the fear that AI agents would collapse demand for seat-based software. Net new average order value growth was reportedly the strongest in four years, customer attrition sat near an all-time low, and seat counts continued to grow even as customers adopted higher-tier, agent-driven offerings.

What Claudeforce Actually Is

The headline announcement was Claudeforce, an expanded strategic partnership between Salesforce and Anthropic. It launches with Salesforce in Claude, a plugin that gives sellers what's effectively an AI chief revenue officer inside Claude itself, 37 prebuilt sales skills covering things like meeting prep, deal health reviews, and pipeline analysis, built jointly by the two companies rather than bolted on as generic API wrappers.

The plugin reads a seller's enterprise context - Salesforce records, Slack conversations, and any other connected data source, to assemble a live, personalized dashboard inside Claude, with interactive views generated on the fly. Actions taken through the plugin route back through Salesforce so that existing business rules and governance controls still apply.

The relationship runs in both directions. Claude is now the default reasoning model across Agentforce, powering Agentforce Vibes and Agentforce Coworker, and is available inside Agent Builder. Through Amazon Bedrock, Claude can also run inside Salesforce's Trust Boundary, letting regulated customers deploy Claude-powered agents without data leaving their controlled environment. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei framed the deal as bringing frontier intelligence into the systems that already hold decades of enterprise business context, while Benioff described it as fusing probabilistic reasoning with the deterministic systems that actually run a company.

Reporting on the deal noted Salesforce expects to spend roughly $300 million on Anthropic tokens this year, on top of its existing roughly $5 billion equity stake in Anthropic, underscoring that Claudeforce formalizes an already-deep commercial relationship rather than starting one from scratch.

Why It Matters

Two storylines are colliding here. One is a legacy SaaS giant proving, at least for one quarter, that AI agents are additive to its seat-based business rather than a replacement for it. The other is Anthropic extending Claude's reach into one of the largest repositories of enterprise business data and workflow logic in the world, a move that pushes Claude further from being a chat interface and closer to being the default way knowledge workers interact with enterprise software at all.

Whether Claudeforce meaningfully changes seller behavior, or whether it's the more traditional Salesforce feature announcement wrapped in a hot AI narrative, will show up in the metrics that mattered most this quarter: cRPO growth, net new AOV, and attrition. For now, the market read the combination of a beat-and-raise quarter and Claudeforce as a strong enough signal to send the stock up double digits.

This story draws on Salesforce's official Q2 FY2027 earnings release, Anthropic's and Salesforce's joint Claudeforce announcement, and reporting from CNBC, VentureBeat, and other outlets covering the announcement.
