Blotato has expanded its social media API with new comments and messaging capabilities, enabling AI agents to manage audience engagement after content is published. The update allows developers to read and reply to comments, retrieve Instagram and Facebook direct message conversations, and respond to messages through the same API used for content publishing.

Quick Intel

  • Blotato adds comments and messaging endpoints to its social media API.
  • AI agents can now read and reply to Instagram and Facebook comments.
  • New APIs support retrieving and responding to Instagram and Facebook direct messages.
  • Integration works through a single API with existing Meta permissions.
  • Features are also available through Blotato's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.
  • Publishing remains available across nine major social platforms.

Blotato Expands AI-Powered Social Media Automation

Blotato has introduced comments and messaging endpoints to its API, extending AI automation beyond content publishing into audience engagement. Developers can now build AI agents capable of reading comments on published posts, replying to users, accessing Instagram and Facebook direct message conversations, and sending responses through a unified API.

The company says the update simplifies social media automation by eliminating the need for developers to separately obtain Meta's advanced permissions for comment and messaging access.

Unified API Simplifies Social Engagement

The new comments API supports the complete engagement workflow for Instagram posts and Facebook Page posts. Developers can list comments, retrieve individual comments, and publish new comments or threaded replies.

Comments are tagged by authorship, allowing AI applications to distinguish between inbound audience interactions and their own responses.

For messaging, Blotato introduced five endpoints that allow applications to list conversations, retrieve conversations and messages, and send replies. Message delivery is asynchronous, requiring applications to monitor delivery status until messages are successfully sent or marked as failed.

MCP Integration Expands AI Agent Capabilities

The new engagement features are also available through Blotato's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which now includes 28 available tools. This enables developers to connect Blotato directly with AI assistants such as Claude without manually building HTTP requests.

According to the company, most recent API signups now originate through MCP integrations, with many customers using Claude to analyze social engagement. One example includes reviewing comments from top-performing posts, identifying recurring audience questions, and using those insights to guide future content planning.

Platform Availability and Current Limitations

The new comments and messaging functionality currently supports Instagram and Facebook only. Publishing capabilities continue to cover nine social media platforms, while comments and direct messaging for X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, and YouTube are not yet available.

Blotato also noted that comments and messages are retained for 45 days, with data collection beginning when an account is connected or reconnected. Existing users connected before the feature launch must reconnect their accounts to enable the new permissions.

Keyword-triggered direct message automation is not included in the current release.
