BrowserStack, the world’s leading software testing platform, has announced support for Playwright tests on real iOS devices using Safari, becoming the first to address a critical gap in browser automation testing. This innovation enhances testing accuracy for developers and QA teams globally.
BrowserStack introduces Playwright testing on real iOS devices with Safari.
Closes gap in automation, previously limited to desktop browser emulation.
Supports parallel tests on 1000+ real iOS and Android device-browser combos.
Offers network, video, and text logs for faster debugging.
Saves up to 80% in automation costs, per L’Oréal’s experience.
Available now on BrowserStack Automate platform.
Announced on June 12, 2025, BrowserStack’s integration of Playwright testing on real iOS devices with Safari marks a significant milestone. “With iOS driving 28% of global web traffic, testing Safari on real iOS devices was the biggest missing piece in Playwright,” said Nakul Aggarwal, CTO and Co-founder of BrowserStack. Previously, Playwright users relied on desktop browser emulation, which missed iOS-specific issues, leading to incomplete test coverage.
BrowserStack Automate now enables teams to:
Run parallel tests across over 1000 real iOS and Android device-browser combinations.
Capture accurate results by testing on real iPhones and iPads.
Simulate real-world conditions like location, network speed, and orientation.
Access network, video, and text logs in a unified dashboard for efficient debugging. This eliminates false positives and ensures reliable results, addressing the 28% of global web traffic driven by iOS devices.
The update has already garnered praise, with L’Oréal reporting up to 80% savings in quality automation costs and the ability to test on twice as many devices. “We can test on two times more devices and browsers and up to three times more website sampling from releases,” said Darius Dumitrescu, Global Technical Delivery Manager at L’Oréal. Serving over 20,000 customers, including Microsoft and Expedia, BrowserStack’s solution targets the $40 billion software testing market.
Playwright testing on real iOS devices is now live on BrowserStack Automate, requiring no code changes for existing setups. Teams can update their configuration files to start testing, as highlighted on BrowserStack’s website. Posts on X reflect excitement, with users noting the unmatched accuracy and scale of real-device testing compared to emulators.
BrowserStack’s innovation positions it as a leader in the automation testing space, especially as iOS 26 and Safari’s “Liquid Glass” design, announced at WWDC 2025, introduce new UI challenges. By enabling comprehensive testing on real devices, BrowserStack empowers developers to deliver flawless user experiences in a competitive digital landscape.
