The survey indicates that 57% of companies currently use AI in hiring, with 74% noting improved hire quality. AI is primarily employed for resume reviews (79%), candidate assessments (66%), and applicant research (63%). Other applications include communication (41%), onboarding (39%), and interviews (34%). This widespread adoption highlights AI’s ability to enhance efficiency and accuracy in recruitment tasks, making it a critical tool for modern hiring.
Among companies using AI for interviews, 66% analyze candidate language, 65% transcribe interviews, 59% assess tone or body language, and 58% collect facial recognition data. Half allow AI to conduct interviews directly, though 6% rely entirely on AI without human oversight. Only 4% report negative candidate feedback, suggesting broad acceptance of AI in interviews when properly managed.
Despite AI’s benefits, challenges persist. Of companies using AI, 57% worry it may screen out qualified candidates, 50% fear bias, and 48% cite insufficient oversight. Bias is most commonly reported around education (63%), age (44%), and socioeconomic background (36%). Only 5% believe AI is free of bias. Additionally, 74% of companies allow AI to reject candidates without human review, with 35% using this at any stage and 39% limiting it to initial resume screening.
Looking forward, 74% of companies plan to increase AI use in hiring over the next 12 months. By 2026, 62% believe it is extremely or very likely that AI will manage their entire hiring process, with 15% considering it fairly likely. This shift underscores AI’s growing dominance in recruitment, though human oversight remains critical for fairness. As Kara Dennison, Head of Career Advising at Resume.org, states: "Companies should be open with candidates about AI’s role in hiring to build trust, improve the candidate experience, and meet evolving compliance standards."
The survey underscores AI’s transformative impact on hiring while highlighting the need for transparency and oversight to address bias and ensure ethical practices. As companies expand AI use, balancing efficiency with fairness will be key to successful recruitment.
