Infosys has secured a £1.2 billion, 15-year contract from the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to deliver the Future NHS Workforce Solution, a next-generation digital platform designed to modernize workforce management across the UK’s National Health Service. The new system will replace the existing Electronic Staff Record (ESR) platform and support payroll operations for approximately 1.9 million NHS employees across England and Wales.
The initiative is aligned with the NHS 10-year Health Plan and aims to create a future-ready workforce supported by modern digital infrastructure. The platform will provide a unified, data-driven system covering the entire employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll, career development, and retirement.
The Future NHS Workforce Solution will be powered by advanced digital technologies, including AI-enabled tools designed to improve workforce planning and decision-making. The platform will streamline administrative processes and provide NHS staff with a more intuitive and integrated digital experience.
By centralizing workforce data and enabling real-time insights, the system is expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce administrative burden, allowing healthcare professionals to focus more on patient care delivery.
The solution is designed as a comprehensive workforce management ecosystem, enabling NHS employees to manage personal and professional information more efficiently. It will also integrate seamlessly with existing NHS systems to improve interoperability and reduce operational friction.
Key capabilities include automated payroll processing, intelligent workforce analytics, and self-service tools for employees, helping modernize how the NHS manages its large and complex workforce.
Salil Parekh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys, highlighted that the NHS plays a vital role in delivering healthcare services across the UK. He emphasized that the company’s experience in large-scale digital transformation, combined with its AI capabilities through Infosys Topaz, will help build a modern, future-ready workforce platform.
The selection of Infosys followed a competitive procurement process, with the NHSBSA citing the company’s expertise in user-centric design and large-scale enterprise transformation programs.
NHS Business Services Authority stated that the new platform will go beyond replacing legacy systems, acting as a strategic enabler for workforce transformation across the NHS. The goal is to improve recruitment, retention, and workforce support through a more data-driven and efficient digital ecosystem.
The solution is expected to strengthen workforce planning capabilities while improving employee experience across the healthcare system.
The £1.2 billion agreement between Infosys and the NHSBSA represents one of the largest public sector digital workforce transformation initiatives in recent years. By replacing legacy systems with an AI-enabled workforce platform, the project aims to modernize how the NHS manages, supports, and empowers its healthcare workforce at scale.
