Workday is taking significant steps to open its ecosystem and foster the next generation of AI talent. The company has introduced a new global developer network that provides broader access to Workday AI tools and training. Concurrently, it announced Google Cloud as the newest partner for Workday Data Cloud, giving customers a secure, zero-copy method to integrate Workday HR and finance data with BigQuery for powerful, AI-driven insights.

Quick Intel

  • Workday launched a global developer network to train and certify AI developers.

  • The network provides access to Workday Build for hands-on learning and certification.

  • Google BigQuery is now integrated with Workday Data Cloud for zero-copy data access.

  • This allows customers to build predictive models using Workday data within Google Cloud.

  • The initiative partners with universities and staffing firms to build a talent pipeline.

  • Certified developers will be listed in a Talent Directory for hiring by Workday customers.

Building the Next Wave of AI Talent

The new global developer network is designed to grow the ecosystem of skilled professionals who can build on the Workday platform. Through the "Learn with Workday" initiative, aspiring developers will gain hands-on experience building AI-powered solutions, from simple extensions to advanced agents. By partnering with universities and staffing firms, Workday is creating dedicated training paths that lead to a Workday Pro Developer Certification, preparing individuals for in-demand roles and connecting them with opportunities through a dedicated Talent Directory.

Expanding Data Flexibility with Google Cloud

A key enhancement for existing customers is the integration of Google BigQuery into the Workday Data Cloud. This partnership provides customers with direct, zero-copy access to their Workday HR and finance data within Google Cloud's analytics environment. This eliminates the need for complex, custom integrations and data duplication, making it easier to build predictive models for cash-flow forecasting and other use cases. Insights generated in Google Cloud can also be brought back into Workday to inform strategic decisions.

Commitment to an Open Ecosystem

These announcements, coupled with the planned acquisition of integration platform Pipedream, underscore Workday's strategic shift towards a more open ecosystem. The Pipedream acquisition, with its 3,000+ pre-built connectors, will empower AI agents to securely execute work across thousands of external systems like Jira and Slack. This open approach, supported by a growing developer community, is designed to accelerate innovation and provide customers with greater flexibility in how they use Workday's trusted data.

The launch of the developer network and the Google Cloud partnership mark a pivotal expansion of Workday's platform strategy. By opening its tools to a global community of builders and its data to leading cloud analytics platforms, Workday is empowering organizations to move faster, unlock deeper insights, and drive more intelligent business outcomes through AI.
