As artificial intelligence continues to reshape workplace experiences, organizations are also exploring new ways to improve employee engagement in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Selflessly has introduced an expanded vision for Phil, its AI assistant integrated into the company's rebuilt corporate giving platform, designed to support both employees and program administrators throughout the workplace giving journey.
Unlike many corporate giving platforms that primarily use AI to automate administrative functions, Selflessly has designed Phil to engage both employees and workplace giving administrators.
For CSR and program managers, Phil functions as a virtual Chief Impact Officer by helping develop giving campaigns, recommend nonprofit organizations, and optimize employee engagement strategies.
For employees, Phil acts as a conversational Giving Assistant that helps users discover charitable causes, donate, volunteer, and participate in workplace giving programs through a unified experience.
According to Selflessly, the expanded AI capabilities are intended to move beyond traditional software automation by making workplace philanthropy more accessible and personalized for employees.
"We didn't set out to add AI to corporate giving — we set out to rethink what giving software could be," said Joshua Driver, Founder & CEO of Selflessly. "Philanthropy is facing real headwinds, and passive software isn't enough. We built Phil to act as a Chief Impact Officer for the people running these programs and as a Giving Assistant for every employee trying to start or grow their giving back. It's our job to build new ways to connect the for-profit and nonprofit worlds, and Phil is how we're doing that."
Phil incorporates a nonprofit recommendation engine developed in partnership with Indianapolis-based Data317. Using graph-based machine learning, the system recommends nonprofit organizations aligned with an employee's interests and philanthropic preferences.
The recommendation engine is further enhanced by Social Impact Culture, Selflessly's proprietary philanthropy algorithm acquired through its acquisition of Employee Vitals. Together, these technologies help employees identify giving and volunteering opportunities that align with their interests while maximizing community impact.
The expanded AI capabilities are part of Selflessly V2, a complete rebuild of the company's corporate giving platform.
The platform consolidates employee giving, volunteering, donation matching, campaigns, grants, and reporting into a single solution with Phil integrated directly into its core architecture rather than functioning as an add-on feature.
By embedding conversational AI throughout the employee and administrator experience, Selflessly aims to increase participation in workplace giving while simplifying the management of corporate philanthropy programs.
