92% completion rate, with 86 achieving Copilot certification so far.
Initiative helps close the global AI skills gap for clients and developers.
The GitHub Copilot training is the first major milestone of Andela’s AI Academy, which aims to shape the next generation of AI-powered developers and provide companies with the skilled workforce they need to stay competitive.
“This initiative ensures that both Andela and our clients remain competitive in an AI-driven future, while creating opportunities for technologists to advance their careers through cutting-edge skill development,” said Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela. “The future of software development is here and we're helping shape it, one developer at a time.”
The eight-week program—delivered at no cost to technologists—covers Copilot fundamentals, prompting, debugging, ethical AI use, and applied coding across multiple languages. The initiative also includes certification prep and ongoing mentorship.
Early results are promising: 92% of participants completed the training, with 86 earning GitHub Copilot certification free of charge through the Andela-GitHub partnership. Technologists from Nigeria, India, Brazil, Canada, the U.S., and beyond took part, reflecting the truly global reach of Andela’s network of more than 170,000 professionals across 179 countries.
"GitHub has experienced the value of the Andela talent network firsthand," said Abbas Haider Ali, SVP, Customer Success at GitHub. "We've used Andela to source top-tier global technologists to optimize our internal support processes. We're proud to partner on this program to help developers—and the companies that hire them—benefit from the full potential of AI-powered coding."
The program responds to a rapidly growing demand for AI capabilities. Nearly one in four U.S. job postings now require AI skills, yet many workers remain unprepared for the pace of change. By investing in AI training, Andela is preparing its global network to meet this demand.
The AI Academy will soon expand to its next track—Mastery of Generative AI. This follows Andela’s partnership with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation to train up to 30,000 African technologists in Kubernetes, ensuring its talent pool remains future-ready.
