Partnership Details

Pac-12 Enterprises, the broadcast arm of the Pac-12 Conference, leverages Lumen’s NaaS to deliver a next-generation remote production model from its San Ramon, California, headquarters. This model reduces on-site resources while maintaining high-quality broadcasts, supporting over 850 events annually, including football, basketball, and external client productions. “Lumen NaaS powers real-time transport that moves at the speed of the fan experience,” said Dave Ward, Lumen’s Chief Technology and Product Officer.

Key Features

  • Scalable Bandwidth: Up to 10 Gbps on-demand, adjustable in minutes for multiple simultaneous events.

  • Ultra-Low Latency: As low as 0.2 seconds, ensuring seamless delivery.

  • Cost Efficiency: Reduces production costs by minimizing on-site personnel and infrastructure.

  • Additional Services: Leverages Lumen’s Vyvx Broadcast Solutions, DIA, and Wavelength services for video acquisition and facility connectivity.

“The ultra-low-latency and flexibility to get high-bandwidth connectivity has been a gamechanger,” said Michael Molinari, SVP of Business Development and Studio Operations at Pac-12 Enterprises.

Strategic Impact

The partnership supports Pac-12 Enterprises’ expansion as the conference adds schools like Boise State and Gonzaga in 2026. It also enables service growth for external clients, such as the Bay Area Panthers, with a 100% revenue increase reported since adopting Lumen’s solutions. With sports broadcasting demanding real-time reliability—65% of fans expect uninterrupted streaming in 2025—this partnership positions Pac-12 Enterprises at the forefront of innovation.

Lumen’s stock (LUMN) rose 4.3% to $5.355 following the announcement, reflecting market confidence, though it remains 48.2% below its 52-week high of $10.33 (see finance card above).

Industry Context

Pac-12 Enterprises’ advanced SMPTE 2110 facility, the third largest in the U.S., combined with Lumen’s NaaS, supports multi-angle content and AI-driven features like live captioning. This aligns with a 40% projected growth in remote production adoption by 2027, driven by cost savings and scalability.
