IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced the appointment of Dr. Rick Muller as Vice President of Quantum Systems, effective this month. Muller will lead the company’s quantum computing systems development, playing a pivotal role in achieving IonQ’s goal of building the world’s most powerful quantum computers, targeting 2 million qubits by 2030. Muller brings decades of experience, including his recent role as Director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), where he spearheaded research in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, biometrics, and text analytics for the U.S. intelligence community. He previously led the Quantum and Advanced Microsystems group at Sandia National Laboratories and directed the Department of Energy’s Quantum Systems Accelerator under the National Quantum Initiative. Muller holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a B.A. from Rice University.
