Businesses continue to face growing challenges in collecting overdue payments as unpaid invoices and delayed settlements impact cash flow. To address this, Monk has introduced Voice Collections, an AI-powered voice capability that extends its Intelligent Collections platform beyond email, allowing finance teams to automate outbound collection calls and handle inbound invoice-related inquiries.

The launch brings AI voice automation to one of the most effective yet difficult-to-scale channels in accounts receivable, helping organizations improve collection efficiency while maintaining strict financial controls and auditability.

Monk Expands Intelligent Collections with Voice AI

Monk has announced the launch of Voice Collections, enabling its AI collections agent, Julia, to place outbound collection calls and answer inbound customer questions related to invoices, payments, and banking information through a dedicated business phone number.

The new capability extends Monk's Intelligent Collections platform beyond email, bringing automated voice interactions into accounts receivable workflows. Organizations can configure phone-based collection strategies while managing all customer interactions from a unified collections platform.

According to industry data cited by Monk, phone conversations remain significantly more effective than email for recovering overdue invoices, yet many finance teams continue relying primarily on email because manually calling every overdue account is resource-intensive and expensive.

"For years the assumption was that customers would not talk to an AI on the phone," said George Kurdin, Founder and CEO of Monk. "The evidence now points the other way. People engage with a good voice agent, and in AR the phone was always the channel that collected best. We built Voice Collections so finance teams can finally use it at the scale email gave them."

AI Voice Agents Improve Accounts Receivable Efficiency

Voice Collections enables Julia to automatically contact overdue accounts identified through predefined collection playbooks while also responding to inbound customer calls regarding invoices and payments.

The feature builds upon Monk's existing AI collections capabilities. Across the company's first 100 customers, Julia has delivered a 24% higher response rate than traditional dunning processes while resolving 88.2% of collections without requiring human intervention.

By extending these capabilities to voice interactions, Monk aims to help finance teams achieve broader collections coverage while reducing manual workload and improving payment recovery rates.

Built with Finance-Specific Security Controls

Monk designed Voice Collections with safeguards tailored specifically for financial operations. The AI voice agent operates in a read-only mode during phone conversations, allowing it to answer questions, confirm invoice details, and guide customers through next steps without making financial changes.

The platform also requires callers to provide both the company name and invoice number before accessing account information, preventing broad searches based on limited details. Every inbound and outbound conversation is automatically recorded within the corresponding collection record alongside email communications, creating a complete audit trail while enabling seamless escalation to human staff when necessary.

"Voice in finance has to be careful by design," said Joe Zhou, Co-Founder and CTO of Monk. "Julia will not browse across accounts or move money over the phone. A caller has to bring the company name and invoice number before it confirms anything, and every call lands in the record. In finance a 1% mistake is still unacceptable, so we built for that first and added the reach second."

Supporting Autonomous Accounts Receivable Operations

Organizations including Unify, Pump, Siro, and Elate already use Monk's AI platform to automate accounts receivable operations, with Voice Collections extending these capabilities into phone-based customer interactions.

"We chose Monk to help automate our collections, a process previously demanding several hours a week of manual, one-off outreach," said Will Stewart, Head of Finance and BizOps at Unify. "Today, our Monk agent is always running in the background and I have a single dashboard to manage AR from."

Monk also highlighted that Pump has used the platform to collect more than $10 million across its customer base in recent months.

Voice AI Becomes Core Financial Infrastructure

Monk believes the launch reflects the broader evolution of voice AI from experimental technology to enterprise infrastructure. By combining mature voice AI capabilities with accounts receivable workflows, compliance controls, and complete audit trails, the company aims to make automated voice collections practical for finance organizations.

Voice Collections is now available as an opt-in feature, with Monk configuring dedicated phone numbers and call workflows for each organization before deployment. The launch represents another step toward autonomous finance operations that combine AI-driven efficiency with enterprise-grade governance and security.
