Cynet’s “Managed Security Snapshot: 2025 Growth, Gaps & Game Plans” report reveals that managed service providers (MSPs) are experiencing rapid growth fueled by rising cybersecurity demands, yet face significant operational challenges due to tool sprawl and limited automation. Surveying 200 U.S.-based cybersecurity leaders, the report highlights key obstacles and strategies shaping the MSP industry’s future.

  • MSPs manage 50 clients, 1,728 endpoints, and 100+ incidents yearly.

  • 94% seek unified platforms to address tool sprawl challenges.

  • Four security tools from different vendors reduce profit margins.

  • 50% cite limited automation as the top barrier to scaling.

  • 96% report cybersecurity enhances client retention significantly.

  • 42% trust MITRE ATT&CK Evaluations for vendor assessments.

Growing Demand, Rising Complexity

The surge in cyberattacks has driven unprecedented demand for MSP cybersecurity services, with providers managing an average of 50 clients and 1,728 endpoints while addressing over 100 incidents annually. “Managed cybersecurity services are in record demand as cyberattacks increase in volume and sophistication,” said Cynet CEO Jason Magee. “The MSP Survey findings reinforce why scalable breach protection is mission-critical to maximizing growth in the channel.” However, this growth introduces operational strain, challenging MSPs’ efficiency.

Tool Sprawl Hinders Profitability

Most MSPs rely on four security tools from different vendors, leading to operational complexity and eroding profit margins. With security specialists comprising only 8–20% of staff, managing fragmented tools is a significant hurdle. The report indicates that 94% of MSPs are prioritizing unified cybersecurity platforms to streamline operations and improve financial outcomes.

Automation as a Critical Gap

Limited automation is a major bottleneck, with 50% of MSPs identifying it as their primary scaling challenge. The lack of automated processes increases manual workloads, slowing incident response and limiting growth potential. Adopting integrated platforms with robust automation is essential for MSPs to enhance efficiency and reduce operational errors.

Building Client Trust and Vendor Reliability

Cybersecurity services strengthen client relationships, with 96% of MSPs noting improved retention due to robust offerings. Additionally, 42% rely on MITRE ATT&CK Evaluations to assess vendor trustworthiness, reflecting a shift toward standardized frameworks. These trends underscore cybersecurity’s role in fostering long-term client loyalty and operational credibility.

Cynet’s survey offers actionable insights for MSPs navigating a complex cybersecurity landscape. By embracing unified platforms and automation, MSPs can overcome operational challenges and capitalize on growing demand, ensuring both client protection and business growth.
