1Password, a leader in identity security and pioneer of Extended Access Management (XAM), has partnered with Perplexity to deliver a secure and seamless AI browsing experience. The collaboration introduces Comet, an AI-powered web browser integrated with 1Password’s trusted credential management, autofill, and access controls. This move highlights 1Password’s vision to make AI adoption secure by default, balancing productivity with strong security for today’s digital landscape.

Quick Intel

  • 1Password partners with Perplexity to launch Comet, an AI-powered browser.

  • Comet includes credential management, secure autofill, and access controls powered by 1Password.

  • The 1Password browser extension ensures privacy-first, encrypted, and effortless sign-ins.

  • Security features include strong password generation, passkeys, and cross-device syncing.

  • Collaboration underscores 1Password’s secure-by-default approach to AI innovation.

  • Early access to Comet will be offered to current 1Password customers.

Securing the Future of AI Browsing

AI-native browsers like Comet are being designed to address needs traditional browsers were never built for. Security remains central to this shift. As Perplexity’s first security launch partner, 1Password has introduced a Comet-compatible browser extension, free for all 1Password customers. This integration provides users with privacy-first browsing, seamless autofill of credentials, and end-to-end encryption for safer access.

Anand Srinivas, VP of Product and AI at 1Password, emphasized the importance of trust:

“The internet is entering a new chapter, one where AI is woven into everything we do. No matter how intelligent our tools become, they only succeed if people can trust them. At 1Password, we believe security must be part of the foundation when building AI products, not an afterthought.”

Enhancing Productivity with Security

Comet users can now benefit from secure sign-ins, stronger password protection, and synchronization across devices and platforms. Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer at Perplexity, highlighted the role of security in user adoption:

“Comet is designed to make AI-powered browsing effortless and productive, but that experience only works if security is also built in from the start.”

By combining simplicity, transparency, and security, 1Password and Perplexity are creating a safer, more productive browsing experience.

Building Trust in the AI Era

1Password’s security-first approach relies on principles of privacy, transparency, and user control. End-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge architecture ensure sensitive information remains private, while users maintain authority over what AI can access. The collaboration with Perplexity showcases how secure-by-default innovation can enable seamless and trusted AI adoption.

As part of this partnership, existing 1Password customers will receive early access invitations to Comet.

About 1Password

Trusted by over 165,000 businesses and millions of consumers, 1Password pioneered Extended Access Management, a new cybersecurity category built for the way people and AI agents work today. Our mission is to unleash productivity without compromising security. The 1Password Extended Access Management platform secures every sign-in, to every app, from every device, including the managed and unmanaged ones that legacy IAM, IGA, and MDM tools can’t reach. Leading companies such as Asana, Associated Press, Aldo Group, Canva, IBM, MongoDB, MediaComm Communications, Octopus Energy, Slack, Salesforce, Stripe, Under Armour, and Wish rely on 1Password to close the Access-Trust Gap: the security risks posed by unfederated identities, unmanaged apps, devices, and AI agents accessing sensitive company data without proper governance controls.
