Okta has launched in-country Okta Platform tenants in India, hosted on AWS, to provide data residency, enhanced disaster recovery, and stronger support for regulated sectors adopting AI while addressing identity governance challenges in the AI era.
As Indian enterprises rapidly embrace AI to drive productivity and innovation, security and governance challenges are intensifying. Traditional perimeter-based defenses struggle to secure the expanding ecosystem of human users, AI agents, and machine identities. Okta’s in-country tenants bridge this gap by combining local data residency with a robust identity security fabric that provides consistent protection across all identities.
Hosting Okta Platform tenants in India on AWS allows organizations to store identity data within national borders, supporting internal policies and regulatory expectations under the DPDP Act and guidelines from bodies such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and sector regulators. This foundational capability builds trust and simplifies compliance for enterprises handling sensitive personal and financial data.
Okta’s identity security fabric acts as a central control plane to govern every identity—human or AI agent—across diverse applications and environments. With AI agents increasingly integrated into workflows, the solution helps organizations manage non-human identities, enforce least-privilege access, detect anomalous behavior, and mitigate risks from AI-armed attackers.
