F5 has appointed Michael Montoya as Chief Technology Operations Officer, transitioning him from his role on the company's Board of Directors since 2021. In this capacity, Montoya will spearhead the enterprise-wide strategy and execution to integrate security deeply into all facets of F5's operations, enhancing resilience amid evolving cyber threats.
Montoya's appointment aligns with F5's ongoing comprehensive security initiative, launched in response to a disclosed incident last week. Drawing from his extensive background in information security across industries and regions, he will oversee programs emphasizing incident response, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk reduction, ensuring robust defenses in a landscape of sophisticated cyberattacks.
As a seasoned executive, Montoya has led enterprise-wide security efforts, including product security, physical and operational technology protections, and compliance initiatives. His tenure at multinationals involved guiding teams to accolades like the CSO 50 and CIO 100 awards, while his personal recognition with the CISO ORBIE Award underscores his impact in building resilient security postures for global organizations.
Prior to F5, Montoya served as Chief Operating Officer at BlueVoyant, managing Product, Engineering, and Operations divisions. His earlier CISO positions at Equinix and Digital Realty honed his skills in securing complex infrastructures, complemented by senior roles at Microsoft, FireEye/Mandiant, and EMC. This diverse experience positions him to drive F5's evolution toward unbreakable security in application delivery.
“Michael brings a uniquely broad perspective that combines deep cybersecurity expertise with hands-on operational leadership,” said François Locoh-Donou, President and CEO of F5. “I’m confident that Michael’s transition from the Board to this new role will strengthen our ability to operate with security and resilience at every level of our business.”
“I am honored to take on this role at F5. Having been a customer for 25 years, and serving on the Board for over 4 years, I’ve long admired F5's innovation, culture, and commitment to customers,” said Montoya. “More than ever, our customers need security and resiliency to address the increasingly sophisticated and expanding digital pandemic of cyberattacks. I am inspired by F5's commitment to advancing the security industry and proud to play a role that will drive how F5 builds, runs, and earns the trust of our customers.”
