These updates strengthen protection for the agentic workspace—environments where humans and AI agents collaborate across communication and data systems to perform business-critical tasks. By integrating email defenses, introducing AI-driven data access governance, and extending intelligent data discovery to hybrid environments, Proofpoint addresses the evolving risks from AI systems that draft communications, access sensitive data, and act at machine speed.
As AI assistants and autonomous agents gain delegated authority, traditional identity verification and rule-based controls fall short against predictive, non-deterministic outcomes. Email continues to serve as the primary attack vector, while AI accelerates data interactions, creating expanded blind spots. Proofpoint’s unified platform connects layered defenses and governance to provide behavioral insight, reduce operational silos, and enable precise risk response.
Proofpoint combines its market-leading SEG for perimeter (north-south) protection with API-based controls for internal (east-west) email traffic into one coordinated model. Shared intelligence enhances detection across pre- and post-delivery phases, while a single workbench simplifies policy management, investigations, and response. This approach improves coverage for internal compromise, direct send exploits in cloud environments, and anomalous patterns involving AI agents in collaboration tools, reducing console switching and analyst fatigue.
The new capabilities offer unified visibility into access rights across SaaS, cloud, and on-premises systems for human users, service accounts, and AI agents. Security teams can identify stale entitlements, orphaned accounts, and over-privileged access, then automate remediation workflows to minimize exposure. By leveraging the Data Security Graph to correlate identity activity, data sensitivity, access patterns, DLP signals, and risk indicators, governance shifts toward continuous, intent-aware risk reduction rather than static entitlement reviews.
Proofpoint extends its AI-driven DSPM to include on-premises data, delivering consistent intelligent discovery and classification across the full enterprise footprint. This eliminates fragmented visibility in hybrid setups, enabling accurate risk prioritization as sensitive data flows between legacy systems, cloud applications, and AI workflows.
