Ping Identity & IDC Research: Verified Trust Leaders Outperform Peers

Ping Identity, a leader in enterprise digital identity, has released a new white paper conducted by IDC titled "Closing the Trust Gap: Achieving Digital Confidence Across People, AI, and Every Interaction." The research highlights a significant performance divide between "Verified Trust" leaders and their peers. According to the study of nearly 800 organizations, those that have moved beyond static authentication to continuous, contextual verification are seeing massive gains in revenue, compliance, and security. However, a major "maturity gap" remains: while over half of organizations believe they are leaders in digital trust, only 9% actually meet the rigorous criteria for verified trust.

Quick Intel

  • The Performance Gap: Verified trust leaders see 51% higher customer registration conversion and 43% lower fraud losses.

  • Operational Speed: Workforce onboarding is 47% faster for organizations using continuous verification.

  • Defined "Verified Trust": Continuous assurance that every digital interaction (human or AI) is tied to an independently verified identity that remains trusted over time.

  • The Maturity Gap: 51% of firms think they are "ahead" in identity, but only 9% actually operate at a "leader" level.

  • Technical Shift: Identity is moving from a "static gate" (one-time login) to a "dynamic trust fabric" (runtime control plane).

  • Passwordless Adoption: 80–83% of leaders have embraced biometrics, passkeys, and digital wallets, compared to less than 30% of early-stage adopters.

What is Verified Trust?

As AI agents and automated interactions scale, traditional one-time logins are no longer sufficient. IDC defines Verified Trust as a model that enforces continuous, contextual verification for every identity-sensitive event. It utilizes real-time signals such as:

  • Zero-knowledge biometrics with liveness detection.

  • Device posture and behavioral intelligence.

  • AI-aware risk analysis.

This shift ensures that identity is not just a perimeter event but a constant "control plane" that governs every authorization decision, providing accountability in an AI-mediated environment.

The Business Value of Continuous Verification

The research proves that verified trust is a revenue driver, not just a security hurdle. By reducing friction during registration and onboarding, leaders capture more customers and get employees productive nearly twice as fast as their competitors. Furthermore, with 44% stronger compliance readiness, these organizations are better positioned to handle evolving global regulations regarding AI and data privacy.

"In an AI-mediated enterprise, every authorization decision must be continuously verified, contextualized, and governed," said Peter Barker, Chief Product Officer at Ping Identity. "This research confirms that organizations embracing continuous, contextual verification reduce risk while unlocking measurable business value."

A Prerequisite for the AI Era

For enterprises accelerating AI adoption, verified trust across both human and machine identities is becoming foundational. Without it, organizations accumulate "trust debt"—increased friction, higher regulatory exposure, and a greater vulnerability to sophisticated, AI-driven fraud.

"Verified trust is no longer a design choice — it's the prerequisite for operating at scale in AI-driven environments," added Emanuel Figueroa, Senior Research Analyst at IDC. "Organizations that establish this foundation early will move faster with less risk."
