NetApp announced the release of NetApp StorageGRID® 12.0 on September 9, 2025, a software-defined object storage solution designed for unstructured data. This update enhances AI workload performance, simplifies management, and strengthens cyber resiliency, addressing the growing need for secure and scalable data infrastructure.
StorageGRID 12.0 introduces advanced caching capabilities, delivering up to 20x more throughput for AI training and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads. It also supports versioning AI datasets with bucket branches, enabling efficient cloning for testing, development, and faster recovery. “As the proven industry leader in on-premises object storage, NetApp StorageGRID provides the scalability, cost-effectiveness, and performance needed to feed modern workloads like AI,” said Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Storage at NetApp.
The update streamlines administrative tasks with automated drive firmware upgrades and improved log archiving, reducing manual effort and enhancing operational efficiency. These features allow administrators to focus on strategic priorities rather than routine maintenance.
StorageGRID 12.0 bolsters security with AES GCM encryption for integrity checking, stronger on-disk encryption, and default SSH port blocking. It also supports immutable datasets through object lock in cross-grid replication, ensuring data integrity for AI and other critical applications.
As of September 9, 2025, NetApp’s stock price (NTAP) is $121.84, reflecting a 0.55% increase (see finance card above). The launch of StorageGRID 12.0 positions NetApp to capture growing demand for AI-driven storage solutions, potentially driving further market share in enterprise storage.
