Patent Recognizes Early Approach to Specialized AI Security Agents

U.S. Patent No. 12,712,891 B2 recognizes Lumu's early approach to specialized AI security agents that assess, prioritize, and autonomously respond to cyber threats.

The patented technology enables the system to autonomously determine and execute response actions such as isolating affected network segments, blocking malicious traffic, modifying firewall rules, deploying patches, and alerting administrators.

“We began envisioning this model in 2023, with the belief that the future of security operations would require more than AI assisting humans. It would require AI capable of taking action,” said Ricardo Villadiego, founder and CEO of Lumu. “Today, that vision is taking shape as the Agentic SOC. For Lumu, it has been the direction from the beginning: give defenders the ability to know when they are compromised and autonomously act at machine speed. This patent is an important recognition of the innovation behind that vision.”

Autopilot Executes 19.4 Million Autonomous Workflows

Lumu Autopilot, an integral component of the company's SecOps Platform, puts this technology into practice. It has executed over 19.4 million end-to-end investigation and remediation workflows without human intervention, managing confirmed compromises, from investigation across the network, endpoint, and identity environments to decisive remediation.

“When we launched Lumu Autopilot in 2024, our product goal was to give organizations a virtualized version of an elite SecOps team that never sleeps,” said Javier Vargas, Chief Product Officer at Lumu Technologies. “Securing this U.S. patent is a monumental milestone for our engineering and product team. It validates that our approach to autonomous, AI-driven incident management isn't just effective, it reflects an architecture that is unique to the cybersecurity space.”

The patent covers autonomous response capabilities across a range of security scenarios, from containing lower-risk incidents to escalating more serious threats for human review. Patented capabilities include isolating affected network segments, blocking malicious traffic, modifying firewall rules, deploying patches, and alerting administrators, allowing security teams to automate response while maintaining human oversight where needed.

The patented Lumu Autopilot technology enables 24/7 autonomous incident management, giving defenders the ability to know when they are compromised and autonomously act at machine speed.
