Dashlane Launches AI Scam Protection to Stop Phishing in Real-Time

Dashlane has launched AI-powered Scam Protection, a new feature that uses a proprietary AI model to analyze web pages in real-time and protect users from entering credentials or sensitive data on phishing sites. Unlike traditional methods that rely on saved logins or domain lists, this solution intervenes proactively, even on first-time interactions like fake checkout pages or fraudulent job applications.

Quick Intel

  • Dashlane launches AI-powered Scam Protection for personal plan users.

  • It analyzes 79 webpage attributes in real-time to detect phishing.

  • Protection works even where users have no saved logins (e.g., fake checkout pages).

  • The AI model runs locally on the user's device for zero-knowledge privacy.

  • It addresses the limitation of vault-based alerts and static domain lists.

  • The feature is enabled by default for Premium and Friends & Family plans.

Moving Beyond Vault-Based and List-Dependent Protection

Traditional password manager phishing alerts only trigger when a user tries to autofill a saved credential on a mismatched domain, leaving first-time interactions unprotected. Similarly, static domain lists cannot keep pace with AI-generated phishing campaigns. Dashlane's Scam Protection addresses these gaps by using AI to dynamically analyze the page itself as the user browses, providing protection regardless of whether a credential is saved.

Real-Time, On-Device AI Analysis

The core of the feature is a patent-pending AI model that evaluates 79 attributes of a webpage—such as URL anomalies, hidden images, and excessive external links—in real-time to determine if it's suspicious. Critically, this analysis happens entirely on the user's device in line with Dashlane's zero-knowledge architecture. No browsing data is sent externally or used to train the model, maintaining user privacy while offering advanced protection.

Protecting Against Modern, AI-Generated Scams

The launch responds to the escalating threat landscape where AI enables scammers to quickly create highly convincing phishing sites distributed via social media, text, and email. By intervening at the moment of risk—such as when entering a credit card on a fake shopping site—the feature acts as a "digital detective" to spot threats humans might miss, offering peace of mind for everyday browsing.

"Scam Protection represents the next generation of anti-phishing tech - protection that works across the entire web, not just where users have saved credentials," said Christophe Frenet of Dashlane. This advancement extends the company's anti-phishing innovation, previously available to business customers, to consumers globally.
