The findings point to a widening exposure gap between detection, prioritization, and remediation, reshaping how enterprises approach cyber risk management in SaaS, IT, and hybrid environments.
The 2026 report highlights a significant increase in critical vulnerability exposures, now representing the largest share of exposure types. Automation and AI-assisted attack tools are enabling threat actors to scan, test, and exploit exposed systems at a scale and speed that exceeds manual security triage capabilities. This has created a growing “exposure gap” between visibility, prioritization, and effective remediation.
Attackers are increasingly leveraging AI-driven tools to identify weaknesses across organizations more efficiently. These tools allow rapid testing of credentials, phishing infrastructure, and known vulnerabilities, compressing the time window defenders have to respond. As a result, organizations are under pressure to modernize exposure management strategies to match the pace of automated threats.
The report shows that 76% of all critical exposures are concentrated in vulnerabilities and internal information disclosure, making them the dominant risk categories. Sector-specific variations are also evident: Utilities and Government environments are heavily impacted by vulnerabilities, while Healthcare and Financial Services face higher exposure from internal information disclosure. These differences highlight the need for industry-specific cyber risk prioritization strategies.
Despite rising exposure complexity, organizations are improving remediation execution at scale, with 85.9% of recommended fixes implemented successfully. Some enterprises are even resolving critical exposures within an hour, demonstrating that rapid response is achievable. However, remediation speed varies significantly across industries, with Healthcare showing the slowest median response time due to operational constraints and legacy infrastructure challenges.
The findings emphasize the importance of exposure management frameworks that unify discovery, prioritization, exploitability validation, and remediation workflows. As cyber threats become increasingly automated, organizations that can quickly distinguish high-risk vulnerabilities from background noise gain a critical operational advantage in reducing security exposure.
