As organizations increasingly deploy AI agents across enterprise environments, governing how those agents access and use sensitive data has become a growing security challenge. To address this, BigID has launched Agentic Access Control and Intent-Based Activity Monitoring, two new capabilities designed to strengthen AI governance by continuously controlling and monitoring AI agent behavior.

BigID Expands AI Governance with New Security Capabilities

BigID has announced the introduction of Agentic Access Control and Intent-Based Activity Monitoring, two security capabilities built to address the governance challenges associated with enterprise AI agents.

According to the company, traditional role-based access control was designed for human users and is no longer sufficient for AI agents that operate autonomously, execute tasks across multiple systems, and rapidly adapt to changing workflows.

Addressing the Gaps in Traditional Access Control

BigID highlights two major challenges organizations face when deploying AI agents.

First, most enterprises still rely on static access policies that grant broad permissions through roles or long-standing credentials rather than dynamically adapting access based on specific AI tasks.

Second, organizations often lack visibility into whether AI agents are acting as originally intended, even when they technically operate within approved permissions.

The new capabilities aim to address both issues by combining adaptive access management with continuous behavioral monitoring.

Agentic Access Control Dynamically Governs AI Access

Agentic Access Control introduces a policy framework specifically designed for AI agents instead of traditional human users.

The capability determines access based on the sensitivity of enterprise data rather than predefined user roles. As an AI agent's responsibilities evolve, permissions are adjusted dynamically to match the current task instead of relying on permanent access rights.

Every authorization decision is supported by BigID's data intelligence, allowing access policies to reflect the actual classification and sensitivity of enterprise information.

Intent-Based Activity Monitoring Tracks AI Behavior

Alongside access governance, BigID has introduced Intent-Based Activity Monitoring to continuously evaluate how AI agents interact with enterprise data after receiving access.

The capability establishes an expected objective for each AI agent and continuously compares actual activities against that intended purpose. If an AI agent performs actions outside its defined objective, the system flags the behavior, even when the activity falls within approved permissions.

The monitoring capability also creates a detailed activity trail showing the data accessed, modified, or transferred, while linking each action to the sensitivity of the underlying information.

Unified Governance Through an Authority Layer

Together, Agentic Access Control and Intent-Based Activity Monitoring create what BigID describes as an authority layer for enterprise AI governance.

The platform combines access policies, declared AI intent, and observed behavior into a single governance framework, enabling security teams to continuously validate that AI agents are acting within approved business objectives.

The company believes this approach is increasingly important as AI adoption accelerates and traditional access management tools struggle to keep pace with autonomous AI systems operating across enterprise environments.

"Every agent you deploy inherits a level of trust. The real question is whether you can verify that trust is earned continuously, not just granted once at setup." - Nimrod Vax, Co-Founder & Head of Product, BigID.
