Avast, a leader in digital security and privacy and part of Gen, has announced the full international availability of Avast Scam Guardian and Scam Guardian Pro on mobile devices, alongside the launch of Avast Deepfake Guard on Windows PCs. These additions strengthen Avast's scam protection ecosystem by delivering AI-powered detection across mobile and PC platforms, safeguarding users from evolving threats in texts, calls, emails, and video content.

Quick Intel

  • Avast rolled out Scam Guardian and Scam Guardian Pro globally on mobile devices for comprehensive scam detection in calls, texts, and emails.
  • Avast Deepfake Guard, a new AI-powered feature for Windows PCs, analyzes video content in real time to detect malicious deepfake audio used in scams.
  • In Q4 2025, Gen Threat Labs identified 159,378 unique deepfake scam instances combining manipulated media with fraudulent intent.
  • YouTube hosts the largest share of blocked deepfake-enabled scam videos on PCs, followed by Facebook and X, often embedded in everyday viewing.
  • Deepfake Guard operates on-device for speed and privacy, supporting English-language analysis on platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Twitch, Vimeo, and DailyMotion.
  • The feature is included in Avast Premium Security and optimized for modern AI PCs from Intel and Qualcomm, with opt-in support for qualifying lower-spec Windows 11 devices.

Scammers increasingly exploit AI-generated deepfakes to impersonate trusted individuals, create urgency, and exploit confidence in video communications. These threats often blend seamlessly into routine online viewing rather than appearing as obvious downloads or links, heightening the challenge of detection.

Avast Deepfake Guard addresses this by proactively scanning video audio for manipulation signs directly on the device, delivering immediate warnings to help users avoid deception. Running locally ensures faster processing and stronger privacy compared to cloud-dependent solutions.

The feature integrates with Avast Premium Security and performs best on high-end PCs with Windows 11, 16GB RAM, and 6+ CPU cores. For lower-spec devices meeting minimum requirements (Windows 11, 8GB RAM, 4 CPU cores), it offers manual, opt-in detection.

"Deepfakes are a serious threat, but they're a symptom of a larger problem: deception," said Leena Elias, Chief Product Officer at Gen. "AI-generated content on its own isn't inherently harmful. The risk comes when scammers use it to create urgency, apply pressure, and take advantage of trust. That's what Avast Deepfake Guard is built for: helping people understand when something may be manipulated and make safer decisions in the moment. By expanding Avast Scam Guardian globally on mobile, we're empowering people worldwide to identify and avoid scam calls, texts and emails with confidence."

The simultaneous global expansion of Avast Scam Guardian on mobile complements Deepfake Guard by providing layered protection against multifaceted scam tactics across devices and channels.
