Corinex has announced the launch of the Network Intelligence Node (GIN), which incorporates near real-time event detection and measurement into low-voltage feeders. GIN provides high-precision information on actual network conditions, creating a reference layer that helps distribution system operators identify constraints, assess available capacity, and verify whether network actions achieved intended result.

Near Real-Time Feeder Data Transforms Low-Voltage Visibility

GIN combines high-performance broadband communications over the power grid with integrated monitoring of current, voltage, and power quality. Installed in secondary substations, street cabinets, and branch lines, it provides electric utilities with clearer view of load and operating conditions across entire low-voltage network.

Key technical capabilities include three-phase voltage and current measurement with RMS error ≤0.5%, power measurement, power factor, frequency and energy, harmonic monitoring up to 51st harmonic and total harmonic distortion, detection of voltage drops and surges, overloads and phase imbalance, one-minute operational snapshots, 15-minute energy aggregations, and optional one-second reports, compatibility with Rogowski coil or split-core sensors, direct connection to 230/400 V networks and MQTT data transmission, operating temperature range from -25°C to +70°C with optional IP67 rated housing.

GIN combines high-precision metering for secondary substations with BPL communications, enabling transmission of feeder-level measurements and power quality data across existing low-voltage network. Monitoring down to 51st harmonic, along with detection of sags and surges, overloads, and phase imbalances, helps utilities pinpoint operational problems where they arise and verify impact of network interventions.

Creating Accurate Digital Twins for Electrification Planning

GIN measurements can be integrated directly into Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence, connecting near real-time field data with advanced network modeling and optimization. Corinex technology monitors conditions across entire physical network, while Plexigrid software reconstructs, models, and optimizes network. Together, they provide power distributors with digital representation that more accurately reflects real-world load, voltage, and power quality conditions.

This enhanced digital twin helps utility companies to improve estimation of low voltage state and accuracy of network model, evaluate available capacity for electric vehicles, heat pumps, and photovoltaic systems, and determine whether limitations should be addressed through flexibility or physical reinforcement. Result is greater certainty about network assets and operating conditions, with less reliance on planning assumptions, lagging measurement data, and estimated load profiles.
