Ericsson and Google Cloud have partnered to introduce Ericsson On-Demand, a carrier-grade 5G core network delivered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform. This solution, built on Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure and managed by Ericsson, enables communication service providers (CSPs) to deploy, scale, and manage core network services with unprecedented agility and efficiency.
Ericsson On-Demand delivers 5G core as a fully managed SaaS platform.
Built on Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure and Google Kubernetes Engine.
Provisions core services in minutes with elastic scaling capabilities.
Offers consumption-based pricing, eliminating upfront infrastructure costs.
Enhances security with geo-restricted deployments and cloud-native firewalls.
Enables CSPs to innovate rapidly and expand into new markets globally.
Ericsson On-Demand redefines how CSPs deploy and manage 5G core networks. By leveraging Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), the platform provisions full core services in minutes, eliminating lengthy deployment cycles. This cloud-native solution combines telecom-grade reliability with public cloud flexibility, enabling CSPs to scale operations effortlessly while meeting stringent performance and compliance requirements.
The platform’s consumption-based billing model allows CSPs to pay only for the resources they use, removing the need for upfront capital expenditure or overprovisioning. Elastic scaling ensures capacity adjusts instantly to meet peak demands, optimizing operational costs. As Eric Parsons, VP Head of Emerging Segments, Cloud Software and Services, Ericsson, states: "Ericsson On-Demand, is more than a product, it's an enabler of ambition. Today's CTOs must move fast, scale smart, and lead their organizations into new commercial territory."
Ericsson On-Demand is powered by Ericsson’s 24/7 Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams, utilizing AI-assisted troubleshooting and lifecycle automation to minimize downtime and operational overhead. The platform’s secure-by-design architecture includes geo-restricted deployments, identity and access management (IAM) policies, and cloud-native firewalls, ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory standards. Muninder Singh Sambi, vice president and general manager of Networking and Security, Google Cloud, notes: "With Ericsson On-Demand on Google Cloud's AI infrastructure, CSPs can rapidly deploy 5G core and tap into new revenue streams."
Designed to support rapid innovation, Ericsson On-Demand allows CSPs to integrate new features incrementally without downtime. Its global availability across 42 Google Cloud regions and extensive fiber network ensures CSPs can expand into new markets, from enterprise networks to fixed wireless access (FWA), with speed and reliability. The platform empowers CSPs to test new opportunities and execute ideas swiftly, positioning them as leaders in the telecom industry.
Ericsson On-Demand marks a significant shift in telecom infrastructure, offering CSPs the tools to navigate market challenges with agility and confidence. By combining Ericsson’s telecom expertise with Google Cloud’s AI-driven infrastructure, this SaaS platform paves the way for a future-ready, innovative telecom ecosystem.
