Community IX has established its Florida Internet Exchange (FL-IX) and Northern Virginia Internet Exchange (CIX-NoVA) within CoreSite's Miami (MI1) and Northern Virginia (VA1) data centers. This expansion enhances interconnection options in key Southeastern U.S. markets, enabling ISPs, content providers, and enterprises to exchange IP traffic more efficiently, cost-effectively, and with lower latency.

Quick Intel

  • Community IX deploys FL-IX in CoreSite's Miami (MI1) facility and CIX-NoVA in Northern Virginia (VA1), expanding its footprint in high-demand regions.
  • FL-IX serves as Florida's largest peering exchange, while CIX-NoVA marks Community IX's entry into Northern Virginia, the world's largest data center market.
  • Both exchanges offer competitive pricing for 10G and 100G ports, with 400G available in CIX-NoVA and select FL-IX locations.
  • Collaboration builds on existing partnership, with Community IX already operating CIX-ATL in CoreSite's Atlanta (AT1) facility since 2020.
  • Provides access to critical interconnection points like NAP of the Americas (via MI1) and Equinix 41715 Filigree (via VA1), plus CoreSite's broader inter-site connectivity.
  • Supports 225+ connected networks across 25+ sites in Southern Florida, Northern Virginia, and Atlanta, with 35Tbps+ of connected capacity.

CoreSite, an American Tower company, partners with Community IX to bring member-run Internet exchanges into its strategically located Miami and Northern Virginia data centers. This move strengthens regional connectivity ecosystems and supports growing demands for reliable, low-latency IP traffic exchange.

Expanding Interconnection in Key Markets

The deployment of FL-IX in CoreSite MI1 enhances peering capabilities across Southern Florida, while CIX-NoVA's launch in VA1 introduces Community IX's services to Northern Virginia for the first time. Launched in August 2025, CIX-NoVA initially serves Ashburn and Reston data centers, tapping into one of the most interconnected markets globally.

These exchanges deliver neutral, transparent, and cost-effective peering with market-leading port pricing. By colocating in CoreSite facilities, Community IX leverages trusted infrastructure and a shared customer base to create robust, high-performance connectivity options.

Benefits for Networks and Enterprises

The presence of FL-IX and CIX-NoVA enables participants to reduce connectivity costs, improve network performance, and achieve low-latency connections via cross-connects. CoreSite's interconnected campuses provide additional reach to ecosystems in Washington, DC, and other Miami locations, supporting seamless scaling for businesses, ISPs, content providers, cloud services, and government agencies.

“Community IX is committed to improving the quality of interconnection between networks and delivering a cost-effective, community-driven service to our members,” said Randy Epstein, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Community IX. “CoreSite’s trusted infrastructure and expansive customer ecosystem create a strong foundation for our exchange services and support our non-profit approach. This collaboration helps us to provide low-cost, highest quality network interconnections that power businesses and optimize performance.”

Building on Established Partnership

This expansion deepens the long-standing relationship between CoreSite and Community IX, which has operated CIX-ATL in CoreSite's Atlanta facility since 2020. The combined presence across Miami, Northern Virginia, and Atlanta positions Community IX to serve a growing number of networks with peak traffic exceeding 5Tbps and over 30Tbps of installed port capacity.

“CoreSite values partners like Community IX that provide platforms that connect organizations and help build dynamic ecosystems that empower today’s businesses,” said Chris Malayter, VP of Networking and Interconnection at CoreSite. “Our interconnected, reliable facilities ensure the speed and stability of connections that enable businesses to thrive in a fast-paced, modern business landscape.”

With 25+ sites and 225+ connected networks across these markets, the collaboration advances efficient, high-capacity Internet exchange services in the Southeastern United States.
