Google Cloud has announced a strategic partnership with Self, a zero-knowledge proof (ZKP)-powered identity protocol, to enhance AI adoption and Web3 innovation for human users. This collaboration aims to integrate Self’s privacy-focused technology with Google Cloud’s Web3 infrastructure, enabling developers to build secure, user-centric applications.

Enhancing Web3 Development with ZKP Technology

Self’s protocol leverages zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to allow users to verify their identity without disclosing sensitive personal information. By using zk-SNARK cryptography, users can prove attributes like age without revealing details such as their date of birth. This ensures that no external entity, including Self’s developers, can access private data, making it impossible to leak. The partnership will integrate Self’s proof-of-humanity ZKPs with Google Cloud’s Testnet and Mainnet Faucets, enabling sybil resistance and sanctions screening through exclusion proofs for the OFAC list.

Supporting a Global User Base

Self currently serves over 8 million users worldwide, supporting biometric passports from 129 countries and biometric IDs from 27 European Union countries, as well as Turkey, Ukraine, Vietnam, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia. Fully audited by third-party zkSecurity, Self’s protocol is production-ready and available on iOS and Google Play Store without requiring additional biometric hardware. Onchain attestations occur on the Celo blockchain, which Google Cloud has supported since 2018, ensuring a robust and scalable infrastructure.

Advancing AI and Web3 Integration

The collaboration will explore integrating Self’s protocol with Google Cloud’s emerging AI search tools within its Web3 Portal. This initiative aims to lower barriers for developers building in the Web3 ecosystem by combining ZKP-enabled identity solutions with advanced AI capabilities. As Richard Widmann, Head of Strategy, Web3, Google Cloud, stated, “The acceleration of AI in the Web3 developer ecosystem is lowering the barrier to entry for developers building in this space. Our work with Celo and Self to bring together ZKP-enabled identity technology with our Web3 developer tools on the Google Cloud Web3 Portal is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the value and timeliness of these technologies.”

Commitment to Privacy and Innovation

This partnership builds on both companies’ commitment to user privacy and protection. Self’s technology has already been recognized for its role in enhancing Google Wallets in the UK for age verification in April 2025 and supporting EU age assurance in July 2025.
