Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced the general availability of Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) on August 6, 2025. This service allows customers to run VMware Cloud Foundation workloads on AWS without re-platforming or re-factoring, combining VMware’s familiarity with AWS’s scalability and security.

Quick Intel

  • Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) now generally available.

  • Enables VMware Cloud Foundation workloads on AWS without re-platforming.

  • Supports license portability, preserving existing VMware investments.

  • Integrates with AWS services like Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q.

  • Customers include Aeromexico, Alcaldía de Cali, and Huron Consulting.

  • Self-managed or partner-managed options via AWS Partner Network.

Seamless VMware Integration

Amazon EVS enables customers to deploy VMware Cloud Foundation within their Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), using familiar VMware tools for management. “Amazon Elastic VMware Service offers customers a straightforward way to bring their VMware workloads to AWS using the tools they know and trust,” said Steven Jones, general manager of Commercial Applications at AWS. The service eliminates the need for IP address changes or staff retraining, maximizing VMware investments.

Customer and Partner Adoption

  • Alcaldía de Cali: Migrated 75% of workloads to AWS in three weeks with AWS Partner Blend, ensuring uninterrupted public services for 2.2 million residents.

  • Aeromexico: Leverages EVS to modernize applications without on-premises infrastructure, accelerating its cloud journey while maintaining resilience.

  • Effectual: Uses EVS to enable rapid migrations, allowing clients to focus on value delivery rather than infrastructure management.

  • Huron Consulting Group: Benefits from EVS’s customization, integrating VMware expertise with AWS’s cloud scale and security.

Enhanced Cloud Capabilities

Amazon EVS supports integration with AWS services like Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon Q for Business, enabling advanced analytics, storage, and generative AI capabilities. Customers can deploy VMware environments via a step-by-step AWS console workflow, ensuring flexibility and consistency in hybrid cloud setups.

Strategic Partnership with Broadcom

“Amazon Elastic VMware Service provides customers with a powerful way to extend modern private clouds to AWS based on unified and consistent VMware Cloud Foundation infrastructure,” said Ahmar Mohammad, vice president at Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation Division. The service supports VMware Cloud Foundation license portability, enhancing cost-efficiency and flexibility.

Amazon EVS positions AWS as a leader in hybrid cloud solutions, offering enterprises a seamless path to modernize VMware workloads. By combining VMware’s proven technology with AWS’s robust infrastructure, the service accelerates innovation and supports diverse industries in their digital transformation efforts.
