Rima AI has announced the public launch of its AI accounting agent designed to automate manual accounting workflows that traditional ERP systems often fail to address.

Backed by Y Combinator, the company was founded by Harvard classmates Gwanygha’a Gana and Cedric Foudjet. The platform is designed to interview accountants, learn workflow edge cases, and automatically build customized document automation processes.

Quick Intel

  • Rima AI launched a public AI accounting agent platform for workflow automation.
  • The system interviews accountants to understand custom operational workflows.
  • Rima builds automated “Blueprints” for recurring accounting document processes.
  • The platform targets manual accounting tasks often not handled by ERP systems.
  • More than 100 accountants are already using the platform.
  • Rima AI focuses on helping solo practitioners and small-to-mid-market firms reduce manual work.

Addressing Manual Accounting Workflows

Rima AI stated that much of modern accounting work still depends heavily on manual document handling, including email attachments, scanned files, spreadsheets, and paper-based records.

According to the company, accountants continue spending significant time on formatting, data entry, reconciliation workflows, and spreadsheet management before information reaches ERP systems.

The company said these operational inefficiencies are particularly difficult for solo practitioners and small-to-mid-sized accounting firms that lack engineering resources to build internal automation systems.

“Over 50 percent of accountants still receive client documents as email attachments, scans, and paper,” the company stated. “They spend hours on formatting, data entry, and Excel wrangling before anything ever touches the ERP.”

AI Agent Builds Customized Workflow Automation

Unlike traditional accounting software platforms that require firms to adapt their workflows to predefined systems, Rima AI said its platform is designed to learn directly from accountants through conversational interactions.

The AI agent interviews users to understand:

  • Workflow structures
  • Accounting edge cases
  • Document handling requirements
  • Reconciliation processes
  • Operational preferences

Based on these interactions, Rima generates customized automated workflows called “Blueprints.”

According to the company, these Blueprints automate repetitive accounting tasks while maintaining consistency across recurring processes.

“You tell Rima what you do in plain English and hand it your messy client documents. It figures out the rest,” the company stated.

Accounting Use Cases Already in Production

Rima AI said accountants are already using the platform to automate a variety of operational workflows, including:

  • Accounting cleanups
  • Catch-up bookkeeping
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Accounts payable reconciliations
  • Data entry for tax preparation

The company noted that these tasks traditionally consume large portions of accounting teams’ daily workloads.

According to Rima AI, more than 100 accountants are already using the platform to reduce manual document processing operations.

“Using the Blueprint Rima developed, our monthly data entry process went from 90 minutes per client to under 20 minutes start to finish. With over 20 clients, this transition has been highly efficient and has drastically reduced my workload,” said Ashley Losee, Senior Accountant at Sunbridge Advisors.

Focus on Restoring Advisory-Centered Accounting Work

The company said the platform was inspired by the founders’ personal experiences witnessing the impact financial mismanagement can have on businesses and families.

Rima AI positions its technology as a way to help accountants shift away from repetitive operational work and toward higher-value advisory roles.

“It breaks my heart to see how these folks spend their days now. They aren’t practicing accounting. They’re acting as data janitors. We built Rima to give them their minds back,” said Co-founders Gwanygha’a Gana and Cedric Foudjet.

The founders added that the goal is to help smaller accounting firms compete more effectively by automating low-value operational tasks while enabling accountants to focus on strategic business guidance.

Availability

Rima AI stated that the platform is now publicly available and open to all users.

The company said users can immediately sign up and begin building their first Blueprint workflow.

About Rima AI

Rima AI is a Y Combinator-backed company building the first AI accounting agent that automates the manual work ERPs won’t touch. Founded by Harvard classmates Gwanygha’a Gana and Cedric Foudjet, Rima interviews accountants to understand their specific workflows and edge cases, then builds custom document automation that runs automatically. Rima doesn’t replace accountants. It does the stuff they hate so they can focus on advisory work, helping build the companies that build America. Over 100 accountants already use Rima.
