Clarivate has announced its support for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in launching an AI-assisted image search capability within the public TM Search trademark system. The new functionality enables applicants, attorneys, and trademark professionals to upload images and compare them against the U.S. trademark register, making trademark searches more intuitive and efficient.
The AI-powered enhancement applies advanced image recognition technology to improve trademark discovery by identifying visually similar marks that may be difficult to locate using traditional classification-based search methods.
Clarivate has been selected and awarded a contract by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to deliver AI-assisted image search capabilities for the public TM Search system. The new functionality allows users to upload trademark images and compare them against registered trademarks within the U.S. trademark database.
Designed for applicants, practitioners, and registrants, the feature simplifies trademark research by enabling image-based searches that complement traditional search methods.
The new image search functionality uses advanced image recognition and artificial intelligence to identify visually similar trademarks across the U.S. trademark register.
By expanding beyond classification-code-based searches, the technology helps users discover similar visual marks more efficiently, improving both search accuracy and the overall quality of search results during the trademark clearance process.
"Visual similarity is foundational to trademark clearance, yet it has historically been one of the most challenging aspects of trademark search. By applying AI models trained on trusted IP data, we are proud to support the USPTO in enabling more accessible trademark search and advancing the Office's mission to accelerate the creativity that drives U.S. innovation."
