ADEO has selected Kong AI Gateway to strengthen governance, observability, and security across its growing generative AI ecosystem. The deployment will help the home improvement retailer standardize large language model (LLM) traffic management while supporting a multi-provider AI strategy across global operations.
Kong announced that ADEO will use Kong AI Gateway as a centralized control plane for managing large language model traffic across its enterprise AI environment.
ADEO, one of Europe’s largest home improvement and DIY retailers, has been expanding generative AI initiatives across e-commerce, supply chain systems, and in-store operations. As AI adoption accelerated, the company sought stronger governance, security, and observability capabilities to manage interactions across multiple LLM providers.
The Kong AI Gateway deployment allows ADEO to apply established API governance practices to AI infrastructure while maintaining centralized oversight of AI interactions.
"We needed to tackle a double challenge: maintaining a consistent service level with all our partners and adopting a multi-provider approach for our AI solutions to enable innovation and avoid dependency. With the support of Kong AI Gateway, we apply mature API governance practices to the emerging world of LLMs, thus ensuring we can scale and control our AI use, while achieving our innovation goals," said Gwendal Yviquel, Group Project Manager of AI Capabilities at ADEO.
According to Kong, the AI Gateway enables ADEO to standardize access across multiple LLM providers while enforcing security policies, compliance requirements, monitoring, and semantic caching for token optimization.
The architecture creates a unified control layer in front of external and private AI models, helping ADEO manage:
Kong stated that the deployment also helps ADEO avoid vendor lock-in by decoupling AI applications from underlying LLM providers.
The platform enables workloads to shift between public AI APIs and privately hosted models without changing application interfaces, APIs, or governance rules.
ADEO plans to structure AI services similarly to APIs by introducing standardized ownership, lifecycle management, documentation, and consumption tracking for AI assets.
The company said this API-first abstraction model will help maintain long-term flexibility as AI regulations, sovereignty requirements, costs, and performance expectations continue evolving.
"We're proud to partner with ADEO as they multiply and industrialize their AI services on a global scale," said Marco Palladino, CTO and Co-Founder at Kong. "By investing in AI governance and connectivity, ADEO is building the technological foundations needed to deploy AI securely, reliably, and in a cost effective way."
The announcement reflects growing enterprise demand for AI governance platforms capable of managing increasingly complex multi-model AI environments while maintaining operational control, security, and compliance.
