Dream Lab LA serves as a dynamic space where Hollywood veterans, emerging storytellers, and studios converge to explore the potential of AI in filmmaking. Unlike traditional technology platforms, Luma AI emphasizes empowering creativity over replacing it. The initiative provides a collaborative environment for experimentation, education, and innovation, ensuring filmmakers can harness AI to tell compelling stories. Backed by leading investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, AWS, and NVIDIA, Dream Lab LA is positioned to redefine narrative storytelling by integrating frontier AI technologies.
The studio is led by Verena Puhm, named Head of Studio, and Jon Finger, appointed as Creative Workflow Executive. Puhm, a seasoned filmmaker with credits at CNN, BBC, Netflix, and Red Bull Media, is a pioneer in AI-driven storytelling, with projects recognized by Sundance and OpenAI’s Sora Selects. "I believe the future of storytelling should be shaped by the people who tell stories, not just the people who build the tools," says Verena Puhm, Head of Dream Lab LA. Finger, with over 15 years of experience in motion capture and virtual production, has worked with Paramount Network and Netflix, focusing on AI-integrated workflows. “The focus here is to find the best experiences for passionate creatives,” said Jon Finger, Creative Workflow Executive.
Luma AI distinguishes itself by developing AI tools tailored for filmmaking, such as Modify Video, Reframe, and Keyframes, alongside its foundation models, Ray2 and Photon. These instruments enable filmmakers to create high-quality, realistic videos with precise control over motion and visuals. Dream Lab LA supports filmmakers by offering hands-on access to these tools, fostering a community where creators can experiment and push creative boundaries. The initiative also provides studios with embedded support to modernize workflows and train teams, ensuring seamless integration of AI into production processes.
Dream Lab LA is more than a platform; it’s a creative engine room designed to shape the future of storytelling. “Dream Lab LA is where we build what everyone else is still guessing at,” says Amit Jain, CEO and Founder of Luma AI. By combining cutting-edge AI with deep filmmaking expertise, the initiative enables creators to explore new narrative possibilities while maintaining artistic integrity. Projects utilizing Luma’s tools are already impacting real-world productions across film, TV, and gaming, signaling a transformative shift in the industry.
Luma AI’s Dream Lab LA marks a pivotal moment for the filmmaking industry, blending advanced AI with creative storytelling. By providing a collaborative space for filmmakers and studios, led by industry leaders Verena Puhm and Jon Finger, the initiative empowers creators to navigate the AI era with confidence. As AI continues to reshape entertainment, Dream Lab LA stands as a beacon for innovation, ensuring that technology amplifies human creativity rather than overshadowing it.
