Zayo and Equinix, Inc. announced the industry’s first AI Infrastructure Blueprint on September 25, 2025, a joint framework designed to power next-generation AI workloads. Unveiled alongside Equinix’s Distributed AI infrastructure at its inaugural AI Summit, the blueprint integrates Zayo’s high-capacity fiber backbone with Equinix’s 270+ interconnection hubs to enable scalable, low-latency AI training and inference.
The AI Infrastructure Blueprint addresses the gap between AI ambitions and infrastructure, providing a repeatable model for connecting training, inference, and enterprise systems. Equinix’s hubs ensure secure, global connectivity, while Zayo’s fiber backbone supports massive data movement, critical for distributed AI like agentic systems.
“AI is transforming the digital infrastructure landscape, but there’s been no playbook for connecting training, inference, and enterprise infrastructure,” said Bill Long, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Zayo. “Together with Equinix, we’re introducing a network standard and data center best practices that makes AI communication infrastructure scalable, extensible, and ready for what comes next.”
Announced alongside Equinix’s Distributed AI infrastructure, the blueprint complements initiatives like Fabric Intelligence (Q1 2026) and the AI Solutions Lab (20 locations, 10 countries). These enable real-time network automation and testing, reducing integration risks and accelerating AI deployment. The blueprint leverages Equinix’s 2,000+ partner ecosystem and Zayo’s fiber expansion, including the planned acquisition of Crown Castle’s 100,000+ metro route miles.
“As enterprises race to operationalize AI, they’re realizing success depends on more than GPUs. It requires distributed, high-performance connectivity that extends all the way to the edge,” said Arun Dev, VP Digital Interconnection at Equinix. “Through our AI Infrastructure Blueprint with Zayo, we’re giving customers a formula that combines Equinix’s 270+ interconnection hubs with Zayo’s fiber backbone, orchestrated through Equinix Fabric.”
The blueprint addresses surging AI bandwidth needs—projected to grow sixfold by 2030—while mitigating concerns like the 70% consumer privacy fears noted in Deloitte’s 2025 survey. Its validated designs and shared language reduce trial-and-error, enabling faster, compliant AI rollouts. Analyst Craig Matsumoto calls it “a pivotal step toward a common model for scaling AI across communications infrastructure.”
