Workday has announced a new integration between Workday Data Cloud and Amazon Web Services (AWS), enabling developers to securely access governed HR and finance data directly within AWS tools and AI services. The integration is designed to simplify enterprise AI development by eliminating the need for custom data pipelines, duplicated datasets, and rebuilt business logic.

The move expands Workday’s ecosystem integrations while giving enterprises faster access to trusted business data for AI applications, analytics, and automation. Workday Data Lake, Workday Data Connect, and Workday Live Data Query will be available for AWS customers through early access programs soon.

Quick Intel

  • Workday Data Cloud is integrating with AWS for enterprise AI workloads.
  • Developers gain bi-directional zero-copy access to governed Workday data.
  • The integration supports AWS AI services including Amazon Bedrock.
  • Workday Data Lake, Data Connect, and Live Data Query enter early access.
  • AI agents can securely access payroll, benefits, and finance data.
  • Workday expands integrations across AWS, Databricks, Google Cloud, Salesforce, and Snowflake.

Workday Expands Enterprise AI Access Through AWS Integration

The new integration enables organizations to combine Workday’s HR and finance data with broader enterprise datasets hosted on AWS. Through the partnership, developers can securely connect AWS AI services directly to Workday’s governed data layer without recreating existing permissions or business definitions.

According to Workday, the integration preserves the business context, security controls, and governance policies attached to enterprise data, which is critical for AI systems operating within HR and finance workflows.

“When developers build systems that touch people and money, they're wiring AI into high-stakes decisions where there's no room for error,” said Gabe Monroy, chief technology officer, Workday. “By integrating Workday Data Cloud with AWS, customers get faster, safer AI built on data they already trust — and developers get to spend their time shipping products instead of on plumbing and permission rewrites.”

The integration also allows developers building AI agents within Workday to access AWS-hosted enterprise data seamlessly, supporting broader operational intelligence and decision-making capabilities.

AWS AI Services Gain Direct Access to Workday Data

With the integration, AWS services such as Amazon Bedrock can directly interact with Workday’s governed data environment. Workday stated that developers can leverage existing HR and finance definitions, metrics, and security models without building additional infrastructure.

Through Workday’s Agent Gateway, AI agents developed on AWS can securely access payroll, benefits, and financial data while inheriting Workday’s audit controls and governance frameworks.

“The most impactful AI is built on data that already carries the context of how a business works,” said Scott Liska, vice president, strategic accounts at AWS. “This integration with Workday Data Cloud means customers can put their HR and finance data to work across their AI applications on AWS without compromising on governance or speed to production.”

The AWS integration joins Workday’s broader ecosystem strategy, which already includes integrations with Databricks, Google Cloud, Salesforce, and Snowflake.

Workday Introduces Early Access for Data Cloud Capabilities

Originally unveiled during Workday Rising 2025, Workday Data Cloud is now available to early adopter customers. The platform introduces three primary capabilities designed to support enterprise AI and analytics initiatives.

Workday Data Lake delivers a unified and curated view of HR and finance data combined with third-party business data sources. The platform applies semantic definitions and organizational business context directly within the dataset.

Workday Data Connect enables zero-copy data sharing using Apache Iceberg and pre-built integrations, including the new AWS connector. This approach allows developers to work with live governed data without relying on shadow databases or brittle pipelines.

Workday Live Data Query provides near real-time access to operational workforce and financial data through SQL, JDBC, and Python integrations, allowing AI applications and business systems to respond instantly to changing conditions.

Workday emphasized that governance policies, permissions, and audit controls remain embedded across all three capabilities, helping enterprises maintain trust and compliance when deploying AI-driven workflows.

Workday Data Connect, Workday Live Data Query, and Workday Data Lake are currently available to early adopter customers, with broader general availability planned later this year. The AWS integration will continue rolling out through early access initiatives in the coming quarters.
