The demands of AI and high-performance computing workloads are driving a new wave of innovation in data infrastructure. VDURA has announced Version 12 of its Data Platform, a major software release featuring a new Elastic Metadata Engine, system-wide Snapshot Support, and optimizations for high-capacity hard drives, all aimed at eliminating performance bottlenecks and reducing storage costs at scale.
VDURA launches Version 12 of its Data Platform for AI and HPC workloads.
A new Elastic Metadata Engine improves metadata operations by up to 20x.
System-wide Snapshot Support enables instant, space-efficient data recovery.
SMR HDD Optimization unlocks 25-30% more capacity per rack.
The platform increases aggregate throughput performance by over 20%.
V12 is scheduled for general availability in Q2 2026.
A key innovation in V12 is the Elastic Metadata Engine, a scale-out architecture designed to handle billions of files and objects. By dynamically distributing metadata operations across multiple nodes, it eliminates a traditional performance bottleneck in large-scale environments, improving metadata performance by up to 20 times and sustaining performance as data volumes grow exponentially.
The release introduces Snapshot Support for creating instantaneous, point-in-time copies of datasets, which is critical for protecting AI pipelines and model checkpoints. For cost-effective capacity scaling, V12 includes optimizations for Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) hard drives. A new write-placement engine intelligently manages these high-density drives, unlocking 25-30% more capacity per rack without sacrificing throughput.
“With VDURA V12, we’re increasing throughput performance by more than 20%, accelerating metadata operations by up to 20X, and reducing cost per terabyte by over 20%,” said Ken Claffey, CEO of VDURA. “At the same time, we’re simplifying data protection with new snapshot capabilities that make backup and recovery effortless at any scale.”
The combined effect of these enhancements is a platform designed for the rigorous demands of modern AI. With increased aggregate throughput and the ability to manage massive datasets efficiently, V12 aims to deliver unmatched economics for training pipelines, inference workloads, and large-scale data movement.
The VDURA V12 release addresses three critical challenges in AI infrastructure: performance at scale, data resilience, and storage cost. By tackling the metadata bottleneck and integrating high-density storage, the platform provides a path for enterprises to scale their AI initiatives without compromising on performance or budget.
