  • Trane Technologies unveils the first thermal management reference design for gigawatt-scale AI data centers.

  • The design is engineered for the NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint and NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 infrastructure.

  • It enables data center operators to simultaneously manage power, water, and land resources for efficiency.

  • The solution is built to scale with NVIDIA's roadmap, including next-generation Vera Rubin systems.

  • It integrates with NVIDIA Omniverse for digital twin simulation and optimized deployment.

  • The design aims to ensure higher density, greater uptime, and faster deployment of AI infrastructure.

Addressing the Core Challenge of AI Scale

The new reference design delivers mission-critical temperature control, allowing operators to optimize performance, energy efficiency, and sustainability concurrently. It is specifically built to support the advanced power and cooling needs of NVIDIA's Blackwell and future Vera Rubin systems, providing the flexibility to scale efficiently as rack densities continue to increase.

A Collaborative Effort for Foundational Infrastructure

Mauro Atalla, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer at Trane Technologies, emphasized the strategic nature of the collaboration, stating, “Our close collaboration with NVIDIA supports thermal management systems that significantly enhance performance and energy efficiency while ensuring rapid deployment and scalability. This innovation underscores our dedication to supporting the next generation of AI infrastructure with unparalleled reliability, resilience and industrial capacity.”

Dion Harris, senior director of HPC, Cloud and Infrastructure Solutions at NVIDIA, confirmed the critical role of such solutions, saying, “Power and thermal efficiency are now foundational to next-generation AI infrastructure. NVIDIA is working with Trane Technologies to develop efficient cooling solutions and reference designs that enable higher density, greater uptime, and faster deployment of gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure.”

Leveraging Digital Twin Technology for Deployment

A key aspect of the design is its integration with the NVIDIA Omniverse DSX Blueprint for AI Factory Digital Twins. This allows project developers to use OpenUSD to aggregate 3D data from various sources, enabling engineers to design, simulate, and deploy gigawatt-scale AI factories with unprecedented speed and flexibility before physical construction begins.

This announcement represents a significant step in overcoming one of the most significant physical constraints on the growth of AI. By providing a standardized, scalable, and simulated reference design, Trane and NVIDIA are working to ensure that the thermal management of AI data centers can keep pace with the explosive growth in computational demand, enabling the continued advancement of AI technologies.
