Semtech Corporation has partnered with Digital Barriers to introduce Semtech Video Compression, the industry’s first fully integrated device-to-cloud cellular video solution. By embedding Digital Barriers’ EdgeVis AI-powered compression technology into Semtech’s AirLink XR60 5G router and combining it with multi-carrier Smart Connectivity services, the turnkey offering delivers up to 90% bandwidth reduction while maintaining video quality suitable for analytics and evidentiary use—making live video streaming over cellular networks more cost-effective and reliable for critical applications.
Live video transmission over cellular networks has historically been limited by high bandwidth costs, unreliable connections in remote or congested areas, and fragmented supply chains requiring separate sourcing of routers, compression software, and multi-carrier connectivity. These challenges have restricted deployments or forced compromises in quality, coverage, and economics.
