Seagate’s 30TB Exos M and IronWolf Pro drives address the global surge in AI storage needs, with over one million Mozaic drives shipped, signaling the maturity of its HAMR technology. "Today, approximately 90% of the world’s data is stored in just 10 countries. However, data gravity is increasingly pulling networks to the edge as nearly 150 countries adopt data sovereignty requirements, and AI workloads continue to expand. Datacenters—on-prem, private, and sovereign—are leveraging AI to unlock the value of their proprietary data," said Melyssa Banda, SVP of Edge Storage and Services, Seagate. These drives enable data centers to handle massive datasets for AI model training and real-time analytics.
The rise of edge AI in industries like retail, manufacturing, and financial services is driving demand for disaggregated storage architectures that decouple compute from storage. Applications such as video analytics, predictive maintenance, and fraud detection require high-capacity, low-latency storage. Seagate’s Exos M 30TB drive offers energy-efficient, high-density storage, optimizing data placement for real-time edge analytics. Additionally, new data sovereignty laws in nearly 150 countries are pushing investments in on-premise and hybrid data centers, with HPE forecasting the on-prem AI market to reach $42 billion in three years at a 90% CAGR.
Industry leaders recognize the strategic importance of high-capacity storage for AI. "Hyperscalers and enterprise data centers are in the early stages of an all-out arms race to develop AI infrastructure resulting in rapidly increasing capex spending on performance-oriented hardware," said Ed Burns, Research Director, Hard Disk Drive and Storage Technologies at IDC. The NAS market, critical for on-premise AI workloads, is projected to grow at a 17% CAGR through 2034, driven by digital transformation and AI analytics. Seagate’s IronWolf Pro 30TB drives are integrated into systems like QNAP and UGREEN NAS, supporting petabyte-scale storage for local AI models and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
Seagate’s drives cater to both hyperscale and enterprise needs, offering scalability and reliability for AI factories—data centers designed to process intelligence at scale, as described by NVIDIA. "QNAP NAS systems are increasingly used for on-premise AI workloads—enabling enterprises to run local AI models and leverage RAG and LLM technologies to process and analyze local datasets," said Dhaval Panara, Product Manager, QNAP. Similarly, UGREEN’s Evan Li noted, "With AI workloads increasingly moving to edge environments, reliable high-capacity storage becomes critical for local data processing. Seagate’s IronWolf Pro 30TB drives provide the robust foundation UGREEN NAS systems require—delivering massive scalability and the operational stability needed for local AI applications."
Seagate’s 30TB drives mark a pivotal advancement in storage technology, empowering data centers to meet the demands of AI-driven applications and data sovereignty requirements. By delivering high-capacity, efficient, and reliable storage, Seagate is enabling organizations to build scalable AI infrastructure, supporting the global shift toward edge and on-premise data processing.
