Red Hat has announced a significant enhancement to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), streamlining the process for customers to access and install leading AI accelerator software from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA. This initiative positions RHEL as a validated operating system distributor for these key technologies, aiming to fast-track AI deployments by reducing installation complexity and ensuring interoperability.

Quick Intel

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux now provides streamlined access to AI accelerators from AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA.

  • Validated drivers and toolkits are available directly through Red Hat's own repositories.

  • This reduces deployment bottlenecks and unintended downtime in production environments.

  • The goal is to accelerate the entire AI/ML lifecycle from development to production.

  • Available software includes AMD ROCm, Intel NPU drivers, and NVIDIA CUDA & GPU drivers.

  • It strengthens RHEL's role as a robust, foundational operating system for enterprise AI workloads.

Simplifying Enterprise AI Deployment

In the dynamic AI landscape, organizations require a flexible and scalable foundation to achieve rapid development. However, installing the necessary driver updates for AI accelerators has often been a complex process that can cause unintended production downtime and lengthy troubleshooting. Red Hat is directly addressing this challenge by enabling easier access to the latest, partner-validated drivers and userspace components directly through its repositories. This empowers organizations with greater confidence that the critical software has been tested for seamless operation with RHEL, allowing them to get AI models into production faster.

Available Technologies and Partner Support

The following drivers and software development toolkits are now available in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extensions Repository, Supplementary Repository, and BaseOS: the AMD GPU kernel mode driver and AMD ROCm, the Intel Neural Processing Unit (NPU) kernel mode driver, the NVIDIA GPU OpenRM kernel mode driver, and the NVIDIA CUDA toolkit. This move is supported by Red Hat's key hardware partners. Gunnar Hellekson, vice president and general manager of Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Red Hat, stated, “With the rise of AI, organizations need to move faster than ever... we are pleased to extend our collaboration with AMD, Intel and NVIDIA to deliver a more streamlined experience for Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers to unlock validated AI accelerators for smoother innovation, faster deployments and easier AI scaling.”

Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager, Server and Enterprise AI at AMD, added, “With AMD Instinct™ accelerators, the AMD ROCm™ open software platform, and AMD EPYC™ processors validated on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, organizations gain an enterprise-ready AI foundation that scales across x86 environments with openness, flexibility, and proven performance.” Michael Masci, vice president, Edge Product Management at Intel, noted, “This collaboration will further empower organizations with a more streamlined experience for Intel’s AI accelerators... running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.”

By smoothing the acquisition, deployment, and maintenance of production-ready AI acceleration software, Red Hat Enterprise Linux reinforces its position as a critical innovation engine for enterprise technology. This enhancement provides a trusted, consistent foundation that helps organizations unlock the full potential of their AI hardware investments with greater efficiency and reliability.
