Quill today announced a $6.5 million seed funding round and the launch of Quilliam, a sovereign Chief of AI Staff agent designed for modern professionals. Quilliam captures context from conversations—where professionals spend 75% of their workday—and uses it to coordinate across multiple AI tools, turning fragmented workflows into proactive, personalized action.

Professionals increasingly juggle specialized AI tools for writing, coding, research, and communication, yet these tools rarely share context or coordinate effectively. Quill addresses this coordination tax by starting where context originates: human conversations. By capturing meeting and call data, Quilliam builds deep understanding of how users work and proactively bridges gaps across their AI ecosystem.
Unlike cloud-locked agents with rigid workflows, Quilliam prioritizes user sovereignty. All data remains on-device by default, transcription happens locally, and optional sync employs end-to-end encryption. Users control inference—running fully offline with local models or through compliant enterprise clouds—ensuring alignment with GDPR, EU AI Act, and industry regulations.
"Work is becoming AI management," said Michael Daugherty, co-founder and CEO of Quill. "But AI tools don't talk to each other and don't really remember how users work. Our goal is to eliminate the coordination tax. Quill starts where the context is — conversations with other humans — learns how users operate and coordinates their AI staff on user's behalf. So users can focus on the conversation, not the follow-through."
Quilliam connects to productivity tools via MCP and uses conversation context to act proactively. After a product meeting, it can create or update Linear tickets, revise Notion documentation, and draft follow-up emails. Before client calls, it surfaces relevant history and prepares briefing materials. Over time, it refines automations, templates, and workflows tailored to the individual.
"We believe Quill's approach to data sovereignty is genuinely differentiated," said Christine Tsai, founding partner and CEO of 500 Global. "They've built an architecture that lets security-conscious enterprises get the benefits of AI while mitigating compliance risks. This will be significant for regulated industries and companies that require on-prem AI solutions."
The funding will accelerate product development and team growth, including recent hires of Founding COO/Growth Yacob Berhane and Head of Enterprise Clayton Bryan.
