OpenText Corporation has announced a strategic realignment of its executive leadership team, marking a significant transition in its corporate governance. James McGourlay, who recently served as the company’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, has been appointed to the role of President, Chief Client Officer. This leadership shift is designed to bolster the company’s focus on client outcomes and professional services as OpenText continues to expand its footprint in the enterprise AI and data management sectors. The appointment coincides with the commencement of Ayman Antoun’s tenure as CEO, signaling a coordinated effort to drive global growth and cloud migration.
James McGourlay transitions from Interim CEO to President, Chief Client Officer.
McGourlay will oversee global client experience, professional services, and renewals.
The role reports directly to Ayman Antoun, who became CEO on April 20, 2026.
The leadership change emphasizes cloud adoption and enterprise AI data security.
Paul Duggan steps down as Chief Customer Officer to serve as Special Advisor.
Duggan will remain with the Executive Leadership Team until July 1, 2026.
In his new capacity as Chief Client Officer, Mr. McGourlay is tasked with leading OpenText’s global client experience and renewals organization. With over 30 years of tenure at the company, his deep institutional knowledge is expected to play a critical role in reinforcing OpenText’s position as a trusted partner for enterprise data. By prioritizing professional services and client success, the organization aims to ensure that its global base of organizations can protect and activate their data within the evolving landscape of enterprise AI.
The executive changes reflect a broader strategy to accelerate cloud migration and core product growth. While Mr. McGourlay moves into his client-centric role, the company also addressed the departure of Paul Duggan. Mr. Duggan, formerly the President and Chief Customer Officer, will transition into an advisory capacity as Executive Vice President, Special Advisor, providing support during the leadership handover before his formal departure in July 2026. This phased transition ensures continuity in leadership as the company integrates new executive perspectives under CEO Ayman Antoun.
The leadership realignment comes at a pivotal time for OpenText as it positions itself as a leader in data management for AI. By aligning its client experience and professional services under an experienced executive like McGourlay, the company intends to better support organizations in governing and activating their data with confidence. This focus on "information with context" serves as the foundation for the company’s vision of building robust knowledge bases for global enterprises.
"James is a proven leader with more than 30 years at OpenText, and his career has consistently been anchored in our clients and what is essential to their success," said Tom Jenkins, Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Strategy Officer, OpenText. "As Chief Client Officer, James will strengthen client experience and renewals, support cloud adoption, and advance OpenText's position as the trusted partner for data and security for enterprise AI."
