  • NVIDIA and Coherent form a strategic partnership to develop and scale advanced optics for next-generation AI data centers.
  • NVIDIA commits multibillion-dollar purchases and secures future access and capacity rights for Coherent’s laser and optical products.
  • NVIDIA invests $2 billion in Coherent to accelerate R&D, manufacturing expansion, and U.S.-based production capabilities.
  • The collaboration targets ultrahigh-bandwidth, energy-efficient optical interconnects and advanced package integration essential for AI factories.
  • Partnership builds on 20 years of collaboration, combining NVIDIA’s AI and accelerated computing leadership with Coherent’s photonics expertise.
  • Optical innovations will enable unprecedented scale, speed, and energy efficiency in AI infrastructure deployments.

Optical interconnects and silicon photonics are foundational to overcoming bandwidth and power constraints in large-scale AI systems. As AI factories demand real-time token generation and massive connectivity across thousands of GPUs, advanced optics provide the energy-efficient, high-speed links required for seamless scaling. This agreement positions Coherent to significantly increase supply of critical components while NVIDIA gains prioritized access to support global AI data center buildouts.

“Computing has fundamentally changed. In the age of AI, software runs on intelligence with tokens generated in real time by AI factories for every interaction and every context,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “With Coherent, NVIDIA is pioneering next-generation silicon photonics to enable AI infrastructure at unprecedented scale, speed and energy efficiency.”

“This strategic relationship underscores Coherent’s role as a key enabler of next-generation AI data center infrastructure,” said Jim Anderson, CEO of Coherent. “We are proud to expand our 20-year relationship with NVIDIA by increasing their access to include multiple product families to help them build the AI data centers of the future.”

The partnership reinforces both companies’ leadership in enabling the infrastructure layer for AI advancement, with a strong emphasis on domestic U.S. manufacturing to support supply chain resilience and innovation in photonics.
