NVIDIA and Coherent Corp. have entered a multiyear strategic agreement to advance optics technologies critical for next-generation AI infrastructure. The partnership focuses on scaling manufacturing capacity, deepening research and development, and strengthening U.S.-based production capabilities. NVIDIA has committed to a multibillion-dollar purchase agreement for Coherent’s advanced laser and optical networking products, while also investing $2 billion directly in Coherent to support expanded R&D, future capacity, and operations.
Optical interconnects and silicon photonics are foundational to overcoming bandwidth and power constraints in large-scale AI systems. As AI factories demand real-time token generation and massive connectivity across thousands of GPUs, advanced optics provide the energy-efficient, high-speed links required for seamless scaling. This agreement positions Coherent to significantly increase supply of critical components while NVIDIA gains prioritized access to support global AI data center buildouts.
