Nscale, a UK-headquartered AI infrastructure provider, has announced a landmark commitment to bolster the UK's AI sector through partnerships with Microsoft, NVIDIA, and OpenAI. This initiative, aligned with the UK-US Technology Partnership, positions the UK as a global AI leader by delivering sovereign-grade compute capacity, supporting startups, enterprises, and public services amid the accelerating AI race.
The renewable energy sector faces rapid expansion alongside fiscal pressures from tax changes and policy shifts, demanding resilient operations to sustain growth. Nscale's Autonomy Platform rises to this challenge by evolving beyond passive analytics into a proactive, fully automated ecosystem. By processing intricate data from assets, suppliers, logistics, and regulations, it fosters seamless collaboration across systems, enabling operators to execute adaptive strategies that safeguard investments in SaaS-integrated energy IT infrastructures.
Nscale's collaboration with Microsoft centers on developing the UK's premier AI supercomputer at the Loughton AI Campus, set to deliver 50MW of initial AI capacity, expandable to 90MW. Equipped with 23,040 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs arriving in Q1 2027, this facility will underpin Microsoft's Azure services nationwide, catering to diverse sectors from finance to healthcare. This deployment addresses the surging demand for high-performance computing in enterprise SaaS environments, ensuring scalable AI workloads while promoting energy-efficient, sovereign infrastructure.
In tandem with OpenAI and NVIDIA, Nscale is launching Stargate UK, a dedicated platform to localize OpenAI's advanced models, emphasizing data sovereignty for sensitive applications. Initial rollout includes up to 8,000 NVIDIA GPUs in Q1 2026, with scalability to 31,000 across multiple UK sites, notably Cobalt Park in the new Northeast AI Growth Zone. This initiative builds on global Stargate efforts, enabling UK enterprises to harness cutting-edge AI for breakthroughs in productivity and research without compromising security or compliance.
Complementing these efforts, Nscale's partnership with NVIDIA DGX Cloud will introduce 4,600 GB300 GPUs, empowering developers through the DGX Lepton Marketplace for accessible AI experimentation. Collectively, these commitments represent up to 58,640 NVIDIA GPUs in the UK—part of a worldwide rollout of 300,000 GPUs—fueled by NVIDIA's £11 billion investment alongside CoreWeave and Microsoft's $30 billion pledge through 2028. This infusion of infrastructure aims to ignite job creation, economic expansion, and technological sovereignty, aligning with the UK's Plan for Change.
“This historic commitment from Nscale shows how the UK can build the future of AI, together with our partners from the US. It’s only by building world-class AI infrastructure that we will stay competitive in the global race,” said Josh Payne, Nscale’s CEO.
“In this age of AI, I want the UK to be the destination of choice for companies at the forefront of technological change, and renowned for harnessing homegrown talent and building sovereign capability,” said Sir Keir Starmer, UK Prime Minister.
“We are building the digital infrastructure for the AI era, deepening the connection between the US and UK and creating new opportunity in both nations. Together with Nscale, we are proud to announce the UK’s largest supercomputer, powered by over 23,000 GPUs,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft.
“Today marks a historic chapter in U.S.–United Kingdom technology collaboration. We are at the Big Bang of the AI era — and the United Kingdom stands in a Goldilocks position, where world-class talent, research and industry converge,” said Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA.
“The UK has been a longstanding pioneer of AI, and is now home to world-class researchers, millions of ChatGPT users, and a government that quickly recognised the potential of this technology. Stargate UK builds on this foundation to help accelerate scientific breakthroughs, improve productivity, and drive economic growth,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
Nscale's announcements underscore a pivotal moment for UK AI, transforming national ambitions into tangible infrastructure that empowers innovation and economic resilience. By prioritizing sovereign compute, these partnerships not only bridge transatlantic collaboration but also equip enterprises with the tools to lead in the AI-driven future, fostering growth across industries reliant on advanced IT and SaaS solutions.
