  • Nokia licenses HPE's RAN Intelligent Controller to integrate with MantaRay SMO platform.
  • Agreement enhances AI-powered RAN automation and zero-touch orchestration for 5G to 6G transition.
  • Development team from HPE joins Nokia Mobile Networks effective October 1, 2025.
  • MantaRay SMO achieves TM Forum autonomous networks level 4 and supports Open RAN compliance.
  • Focuses on efficient multi-vendor network management and open R1 interface for rApps.
  • Strengthens Nokia's position in AI-driven networking solutions for service providers and enterprises.

Enhancing MantaRay SMO with HPE Integration

Nokia's MantaRay SMO stands as an industry-leading solution for advanced AI-driven, zero-touch automation, already compliant with Open RAN standards and capable of reaching TM Forum's autonomous networks level 4. The licensing of HPE's RAN Intelligent Controller will embed these assets directly into MantaRay, expanding Nokia's AI-powered SMO and network automation portfolio. This integration promises improved orchestration across diverse ecosystems, enabling operators to handle complex, multi-vendor setups with greater precision and efficiency.

Strategic Team Transfer and Expertise Boost

As part of the global agreement, the majority of HPE's development team specializing in these technologies has transitioned to Nokia Mobile Networks, bringing specialized knowledge that accelerates innovation in RAN automation. This move aligns with Nokia's commitment to building robust, open architectures that support seamless integration and scalability, preparing networks for the evolution from 5G to future 6G deployments.

Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, said: “This licensing deal with HPE will further strengthen our proven MantaRay SMO portfolio by adding these assets and expertise. Our customers worldwide will benefit from the enhanced capabilities of Nokia’s AI-driven automation, orchestration and open ecosystems, enabling them to manage multi-vendor networks more efficiently and prepare for the transition from 5G to 6G.”

This collaboration not only fortifies Nokia's technological edge but also underscores its focus on delivering sustainable, high-performance networks that drive monetization opportunities and digital service advancements for global partners.
