Technical Leadership to Drive AI Strategy

Bhawna Singh brings over 25 years of experience in platform transformation and global engineering to Lightspeed. Her background includes serving as CTO at Okta, where she managed technology strategy for a global identity platform, and as CTO at Glassdoor. In her new role, Singh will work alongside Chief Product Officer John Shapiro to accelerate Lightspeed’s AI roadmap, which recently saw the launch of conversational assistants for both retail and restaurant merchants.

"Merchants today are navigating extraordinary complexity and the technology they rely on has to work harder, scale faster, and deliver measurable outcomes," said Bhawna Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Lightspeed. "What drew me to Lightspeed is the opportunity to build a platform that truly integrates every dimension of a commerce business; from the point of sale, to payments, inventory, and beyond. I'm here to make sure Lightspeed's technology leads the way."

AI-Powered Automation for Retail Merchants

The latest product wave introduces several AI-driven tools specifically for retailers. The Faire integration allows for a seamless connection to the global wholesale marketplace, automatically syncing product data and images to reduce manual labor. Additionally, an AI-powered OCR tool streamlines inventory onboarding by digitizing product data from physical documents. To drive revenue, Lightspeed now utilizes AI to provide personalized brand recommendations within its marketplace based on a merchant’s order history.

Streamlining Hospitality Operations

For the hospitality sector, Lightspeed has introduced an AI Menu Import tool that digitizes menus from photos or hand-drawn notes, automatically organizing items, modifiers, and accounting groups. To enhance the guest experience and operational speed, the company has also redesigned its POS navigation for mobile devices and expanded its Mobile Tap solution to Quebec. This allows restaurant staff to handle orders and payments in one continuous flow, which is critical for maximizing revenue during peak hours.

"Bhawna is exactly the kind of technology leader Lightspeed needs at this stage of our journey," said Dax Dasilva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Lightspeed. "She has a rare combination of deep engineering expertise and the strategic instinct to move fast, and that's critical as we accelerate our AI roadmap and deepen the integration across our platform."
