The landscape of enterprise video and communication is set to become more immersive with a significant strategic acquisition. Kaltura, the AI Video Experience Cloud company, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire eSelf.ai, a multimodal AI lab specializing in technology for agentic interactions with live, conversational avatars. This move accelerates Kaltura's evolution from enabling video experiences to powering immersive, AI-driven virtual agents for customer and employee engagement.
Kaltura signs a definitive agreement to acquire eSelf.ai, a provider of interactive AI avatars.
eSelf.ai's technology features photorealistic avatars that support over 30 languages.
The avatars can hear, talk, and "see" user screens to analyze them in real time.
Kaltura plans to integrate the avatars across its product suite for marketing, sales, and training.
The deal is valued at approximately $27 million if all milestones are met.
The acquisition is expected to close in Q4 2025, pending standard conditions.
eSelf.ai provides a platform for creating conversational, photorealistic avatars that combine live, expressive visuals with low-latency speech recognition and generation. Their technology also includes screen understanding and dynamic media sharing, all built on an agentic, enterprise-grade framework. This capability will allow Kaltura to transform its existing AI "Genies" into visually expressive agents that can interact with users in real time.
The integration of eSelf.ai's technology is planned to open a wide array of new applications. Kaltura intends to embed these immersive avatars into its market-leading video products for use cases such as interactive marketing agents on websites, sales development representatives (SDRs) in digital sales rooms, and customer care agents that can troubleshoot issues by comprehending a user's screen. For internal operations, the avatars could serve as HR recruiting agents, personalized onboarding assistants, and IT help-desk agents.
“We are excited at the opportunity to welcome the talented eSelf.ai team and their cutting-edge technology. This acquisition will expand our content creation tools to include AI-based avatar content, and most importantly will accelerate our expansion into powering also immersive, real-time, virtual agents for customer and employee experiences,” said Ron Yekutiel, Co-founder, Chairman, President and CEO of Kaltura.
The acquisition is structured with a cash payment of $7.5 million upon closing, followed by $12.5 million in cash contingent on performance milestones over three years, and approximately 4.7 million shares of Kaltura common stock. The total potential value is approximately $27 million. The eSelf.ai team, led by co-founders Dr. Alan Bekker and Eylon Shoshan, is comprised of over 15 AI experts and will join Kaltura to drive the integration and future development of the avatar technology.
This acquisition positions Kaltura at the forefront of immersive enterprise communication. By adding interactive, conversational avatars to its robust video cloud platform, Kaltura is enabling organizations to create more engaging, efficient, and personalized digital experiences for both customers and employees at a global scale.
