Strategic Expansion for AI Inference

Groq’s new Helsinki data center, announced on July 7, 2025, marks a significant step in its global expansion, addressing Europe’s growing need for AI inference capabilities. “As demand for AI inference continues at an ever-increasing pace, we know that those building fast need more – more capacity, more efficiency, and with a cost that scales,” said Jonathan Ross, CEO and Founder of Groq. The facility, developed in partnership with Equinix, builds on their existing collaboration in Dallas, Texas, and delivers low-latency, high-performance AI inference through Groq’s LPU systems, designed specifically for real-time processing of pre-trained AI models.

Why Helsinki? Sustainability and Speed

Finland was chosen for its sustainable energy policies, free cooling, and reliable power grid, making it an ideal location for AI infrastructure. “There is no doubt AI is front of mind for businesses across Europe; and the Nordics is a great place to host AI infrastructure,” said Regina Donato Dahlström, Managing Director for the Nordics at Equinix. The Helsinki center reduces latency for European users, ensuring faster response times and robust data governance, aligning with the region’s push for sovereign AI—where data centers are located locally to enhance security and compliance.

Equinix Partnership Enhances Scalability

The collaboration with Equinix leverages its global infrastructure and Equinix Fabric®, enabling customers to deploy inference workloads to GroqCloud via public, private, or sovereign infrastructure. This ensures secure, vendor-neutral connectivity with platforms like AWS and Google Cloud, making Groq’s services accessible and cost-effective for enterprises across the U.S. and EMEA. The rapid deployment—decided just four weeks ago and set to serve traffic by the end of the week—highlights Groq’s ability to execute swiftly.

Building on Global Momentum

This European expansion builds on Groq’s existing data centers in the U.S. (Equinix, DataBank), Canada (Bell Canada), and Saudi Arabia (HUMAIN), which collectively process over 20 million tokens per second. The Helsinki facility strengthens Groq’s position in the $2.8 billion-valued AI inference market, competing with players like Nvidia by offering LPUs optimized for inference tasks, delivering unmatched speed and cost efficiency.

Groq’s Helsinki data center positions it to capitalize on Europe’s AI boom while supporting enterprises with scalable, secure, and sustainable AI inference solutions. This move not only enhances Groq’s global footprint but also aligns with Europe’s strategic focus on localized, high-performance AI infrastructure.
